I bought a spare speedometer from the US, in preparation for posting the original one for Mod

    ok, Here is my background:

    -in Australia

-Learned the flasher chip (BTS 5240) is on the speedo board from this forum

-Would like to use 1W Orsam LED bulbs without having hyper flash or using external resistors

-Father in law has the knowledge and tools required to do the mod , however, he is not in the country.

Hence, back to the thread title says, I managed to source a 15' LHD prius v speedo from the US for my RHD 2016 model.

so that I can still drive the car while its speedo is sent away for mod.

interestingly , the 15' speedo from US has 2 ports at the back , compare to 16' model 3 ports. after testing it, I can verify that all seems to be ok , except HUD no longer working (I guess the third port is there for the HUD functionality )

Got to love the KMH MPH switch function. I was concerned that it can only display MPH, by pressing the button next to hazard light , it now does KMH/MPH switching.

Anyway, see pictures below for detail, and hope my father in-law can handle it.

I was lucky and found @AlexSmall from internet , here is his link on how it was done, Переделка встроенного реле поворотников на LEDы. — Toyota Prius V, 1.8 л., 2013 года на DRIVE2

My father in law was able to perform the same job. I need to wait few weeks for the meter to come back and to installed in the car.

I'm using Osram 1.3w LED bulbs. Energy consumption going to be down by approx 17 times less and as bright if not brighter than the current bulbs: )

    more updates to come.

    Whoa! Now that's dedication!

(I think I'll just use parallel load resistors when I install my front LED turn signals!)

    :) yeh, i'm really obsessed. : D

Using resistors at the bulbs will work, . but the resistors can get very hot and defeating the energy saving purpose of the LED bulbs : D

Well, all turn signals save a lot of energy just by not being lit up 99.9% of the time you are driving!

I am wondering why two Potentiometers were required? Would they adjust each side, or would one control the turn signal flash rate and the other the 4-way flasher rate?

Every car I have ever driven has the sound of the 4-way flashers and the turn signals be the same. This is a pet peeve of mine as an Uber driver.

I always turn on my 4-way flashers when I pick up a passenger. On approaching a passenger I always:
    1) hit the flashers button
    2) then hit park button, doors are configured to unlock on park.

Most of the time, I need to use my turn signals when I pull away from the curb. Sometimes I forget to turn off the 4-way flashers before I use the turn signal.

After the passenger is in the car, I always:

    1) Check that the door open light is off (all doors are closed)
    2) Look over my left shoulder to see if it is safe to pull out into traffic
    3) Almost simultaneously, I hit the left turn signal with my left hand.
    4) Almost simultaneously, I put the car into drive with my right hand (which is configured to lock the doors)
    5) When I finally turn my head around forward again, my attention is entirely focused on not hitting things outside the car. The state of the flashers is much lower priority.

I find I frequently forget to turn off the 4-way flashers, so the visual clue is not helpful. I do not have any audible clue that I still have my 4 way flashers on. Hitting the 4 way flashers requires eye contact, so pushing the button extra times might turn them off or back on. I would prefer a paddle style switch which has tactile feedback of the new state of the flashers.

If I could make the rate of the 4-way flashers a slightly different rate, I would have the clue I need. better would be a different sound altogether.

I found this thread because I am hoping to downgrade my 2017 Prius V instrument cluster to the version without the "Multi Info Display". The 2017 V is my wife's car. The car I use for Uber is a 2013 Prius V.

The thread I have started, you may have a lot to contribute:

Hi , you are right, we added 2 resistors , one for each side( the chip measures the front, back and side mirror turn signal's wattage combined )

4 way flash/ emergency flash works normally (flash in regular speed) , EVEN there is a broken bulb / low wattage led bulb is installed. I found that behaviour at the very beginning, before doing this mod.

Cool, so if I did the same Mod, I could make my turn signals flash at a slightly higher or lower rate than the 4-ways. That way, I would be able to hear if the sound is currently for turn signals vs. 4 ways.

Since they are individually adjustable, I could even make the left turn signal faster, and the right turn signal slower. Too much work for me, but a great idea.
