My new to me Prius gen 2 2004 has red triangle and warning lights lit up like a xmas tree. I just put a new 12v battery on and now decided that i now need to read the codes as its still almost dead. I have brought a mini vci cable and tech stream (xhorse from ebay) but when connecting to the car i get stuck as it will not auto detect the model number and i cant find my model number on the drop down list.

If i choose a random one it does seem to connect so think everything is working. i have a 2004 gen 2 Prius and The number on the label in engine bay is JTDKB20U60000129....985.

Anyone got a clue what number i need to enter into Techstream when selecting model number or am i doing something stupid.

Sometimes it does not auto detect. Try to reboot, turn on techstream first, connect cable and then press power button twice (no brake). If you try 4-5 times and still does not work, try to re-install the firmware first and software again preferably from another source or earlier version.

Thanks that's good advice and did get me a little further but i have just come in from the cold having finally got it to connect by ignoring all the instructions that came with it and i found on line and by setting the system to US not Europe.

However it doesn't seem to see the main ECU or anything in the power train tab. Also as soon i i plug it in the engine shuts off and PS appears in the MFD even if the dongle isn't connected to the PC is this normal. ?
