I bought this 2008 Prius seems to run normal; however the was check light when scanned, it showed p2601 we replaced the coolant pump but the code came again. afterward I got a red triangle and could start the car; since some people associate the red triangle with the 12v battery, I checked the voltage an it was low 9-11 volts. After replacing the 12v batt., the car started fine, but Red triangle came back. Then I bought a car scanner , but the strange thing is that I am getting the red triangle. I clear the triangle then the scanner shows other codes: C1310( current) 1. active booster solenoid 2. HV system malfunction. C1378 capacitor communication malfunction. And so on. Can someone help I am new here and will appreciate any help on this issue.

Which pump, specifically, did you replace? There are four on the Gen 2 Prius.

The one associated with the P2601 is the electric pump that supplies hot coolant stored in the CHS tank into the cylinder head of the engine.

The P1116 DTC is also to do with the CHS tank. The coolant heat storage (CHS) tank outlet temperature sensor is used for monitoring coolant temperature in the vicinity of the outlet port of the heat storage tank of the CHS system. The resistance of the sensor increases when the CHS tank outlet temperature is low, and conversely, the resistance decreases when the temperature is high. The changes in resistance are reflected in the voltage that is output by the sensor. The ECM monitors the sensor voltage and uses this value to control the CHS system properly.

If the sensor output voltage deviates from the normal operating range, the ECM determines that the CHS tank outlet temperature sensor circuit has malfunctioned, and sets a DTC (P1116).

C1310: This is just a repeater code put out by the Enhanced VSC ECU that it heard from the Hybrid Control ECU there was a Malfunction in the HV system. (C1378)

C1378: The brake control power supply assembly (capacitor) provides auxiliary power for brake control when an auxiliary battery (12 V) voltage drops.

The FAIL and ENA line are placed between the skid control ECU and the brake control power supply assembly. Signals indicating that the brake control power supply is in auxiliary mode are sent to the skid control ECU through the FAIL line.

Charge permit prohibition signals are sent to the brake control power supply through the ENA line.

DTC No./Blink Code INF Code DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
1 C1378/44 112 When either condition below is met:
    • Open or short in FAIL line
    • Malfunction inside the power back up unit
    • Harness and connector
    • Skid control ECU

I would clear all DTC's and see if any come back. The C1378 could be as a result of your low battery problem.

    I hope that helps.

When I reset (erase) the DTC codes the car will be ready and works fine; however, after driving for a while, the red pain will come back. The car doesn't stop running and still works fine until you turn it off; it won't start or be ready. Sometimes it shows on Freeze Frame the P2601 coolant pump control circuit range performance, nevertheless, the I/M monitor status ON SCANNER indicates everything green: MIS, FUE,CCM, CAT,EVA, O2S,HTR. What's bugging me is that the inverter coolant pump was replaced because it indicated that code on the Freeze frame and I didn't get a red triangle until after the new coolant pump was installed. Could there be problem with the new coolant pump INSTALLED. We did bleeding to see if the problem goes away, but after bleeding was done, the car worked great no triangle for a few day and the RED PAIN returned when I stopped to adjust the driver's seat. I try to give as many details as I can to see I anyone can find a Fix for that my RED TRIANGLE. I will appreciate your help very much. Thank you for the information you gave me,

You mention these two symbols. Are they the same thing, or do you mean a different light when you refer to the "red pain"?
With what? OEM or third-party aftermarket? Some aftermarket units have proved to be unreliable. But further P2601 does not refer to the inverter coolant pump, it is about the CHRS pump, so I'm thinking you replaced a (most likely) good pump for no reason.

The trouble areas for P2601 are:
    • CHS water pump
    • CHS water pump relay
    • Open or short in CHS water pump circuit
    • ECM

I don't know what scanner you are using, but the P2601 does not show on freeze frame data, it is a code in its own right so it will have its own code page. Or maybe just you're using the incorrect terminology?

    Good morning.
I am using an innova 5610 scanner ; it would show different code when the red Triangle appears with exclamation mark and a yellow circle with exclamation mark too. The car runs normally; my scanner indicates: solenoid booster and Hv malfunction ; however, it doesn’t sow this all the time. Sometimes it says no DTCs or a coolant pump code. This Red Triangle pain may pop any time for no reason. I must mention that the brake pads were replaced recently and afterwards I noticed the brake makes a “ssh” noise and moves somewhat down which wasn’t the case before. Any help from you will be greatly appreciated. I am still running the car by erasing the codes and I hope that doesn’t do further harm.
    Have a great day,
