    I came from a 2012 V, so this is a bit different...

    Impressions:
Cargo area much smaller - I get it. Bigger battery, it was a V, etc.
Prime is an extremely smooth ride, compared to my beat up V.
How can this trim level not have a garage opener? This baffles me.
The start up music sucks. I turned it to the lowest setting and it still sucks.
    Less pockets/storage areas.

    Questions:
Apple car play only works when plugged in right?
Ideas on how to set up a cargo net? I have an extra one, but there are no hooks available.
Wireless charging barely works, I have an Apple iPhone 8 plus and it fits somewhat well, but it doesn't always charge because the car shifts around and its not making contact with the wireless charging. ideas?

    Thanks!

I currently own both a Prime & a V, I always get in the Prime when I go out.

Plus I can't charge up my V on 240v using the Toyota OE EVSE unit & a high quality inexpensive 240v adapter for quick 2:28 minute charging.

They seem to "pruning" over the years. In Canada for model year 2010, every level but base had the garage door opener:

I wonder why you described your car as a 2020 Prius Prime Plug In Advanced?

Part of it is because it was attached to the auto dimming mirror so as they pruned that back, Homelink was collateral damage.

I suspect the rear spoiler interfering with the auto-dimming mirror is the culprit - non PC owners complain that the mirror doesn’t dim but may not realise it’s the spoiler and thus Toyota responded by only putting it on the top trim to reduce the number of complaints.

It seems like the Homelink mirror is a biggie here. It was for me, too, and I went with Dianne at South Coast Toyota specifically because she had an XLE with the Homelink mirror. Although Toyota's website shows it is not available on anything lower than the Limited, dealers ARE able to order them with Homelink. She indicated that she always orders Homelink on her cars, and texted me the sticker showing it had the Homelink before I committed to buying from her.

That can be turned off. It's one of the first changes I made. Now I can't find the setting, but it's there.

It's worthless. I also have an iPhone 8+ and it has a clear Speck case. It won't fit in the charger. And wireless charging won't reach through the case even with a desktop Qi charger. I found a rubber insert to put on the charger so it can be used to carry small items without them sliding over the sloped sides.

Yes, I think you are right.

Yup, I don't think I saw XLE in there.

Good info - definitely seems like a standard option for me. But IDK!

If you ever find how to turn off the start up music, please LMK.

Good idea on the wireless charging! Thanks!

They hid it in the Nav Manual. Item #5 in the general settings screen. I didn't know where it was because I just stumbled across it originally when I was exploring the various settings on the car. When I saw that, I said, "YES!!!!" and turned it off with glee. The stupid screen still feels like it takes longer to boot than Windows 95 but at least it's quiet.

You are my hero! That music was cute for the first couple days. Since then I've been wondering about how to turn it off. Thanks.

I have a iPhone XS with a clear case. It works great with that size. I was trying to decide if I wanted the bigger XS Max when I went shopping for phones. Thanks for reinforcing my decision, in a roundabout weird kind of way, ha ha.

Yeah, the 8+ just fits without the case. But then I'd have an unprotected all-glass phone sliding around on a glossy surface with sloped sides in a place that would cause me to wreck the car if I tried to use its vastly superior map features. And even a desktop Qi charger won't charge through that thick Speck case. I've borrowed two of them to test it.

Weird, I don't have this problem. Both my personal phone and my work phone are all glass-back and they sit on the Qi charger without sliding at all. I find it to be a very useful feature of this car.

Does the 2020 finally have a non-slip surface there? Cool! Mine is slick as snot.

But regardless, the charger is in the wrong place, too small to hold my phone in a case, and too weak to charge through the case anyway. More importantly, I find it impossible to use google maps when it's down there. And I absolutely refuse to use my $800 phone/computer/gps without a good case. Not no way, not no how. I can't afford that. And from what I've read, the Qi charger won't supply enough power to keep up when using maps and gps anyway even if it was in a usable place.

Another factor I didn't mention is how often drinks in the front cup holder slop onto the charger and whatever is in it. Of course, in the 2020, they use the seat heater switches to help keep those liquids off the charger. Don't get me wrong, I love this car, but the little extras that would make it even sweeter were designed by idiots.

On the other hand, it takes about two seconds to pop the phone into the case on the dash and (if necessary) connect the charging cord that's waiting a couple inches away. And then my free and up-to-date maps are right there in front of me.

Well if the truth be known, the GPS (and Bluetooth) antenna actually only occupies the top 1/3 of an iPhone. So not only would you find it impossible to use Google Maps but you’d get a lousy signal with your phone on the charger. I’ve noticed I have a stronger signal when my phone is sitting in the cup holder than on the Qi charger.

Since I rarely use the cup holders for what they were designed for, I usually have my sunglasses in the front cup holder and my phone in the second with a 1 ft right angle charge cable. I’ll use the Qi charger when I’m using Bluetooth to talk to my OBD II reader.

My wireless charging works fine with my S10. I have a cheap $5 TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethane) case and the phone doesnt slide around. It provides just enough grip and is thin enough to work.

Was thinking about you guys yesterday: my replacement car charger cord arrived:

    upload_2019-12-31_8-58-1.png

and I was vacuuming out the detris, sorting out the junk in the centre arm rest. It has that nice little flip up tray: we twigged after a few years that it was for a phone on a charger. Fit's the iPhone5 just fine.

I have a 2020 and the Qi charging area is STILL slick. I just bought a rubber pad to keep all the junk in my place. I also gave up on using the Qi charger for the reasons above and one main reason. Apple Carplay. If I connect via USB, I can get carplay, so it's connect 90% of the time.
