    Ooh, 0oh, pick me!

Despite many decades of research no one has built a fusion reactor capable of net positive energy production. Ever. And the net loss reactors are large...maybe basketball court size. And you want to hang some hope on Toyota magically putting one in a car rather than just getting a BEV that is proven, on-the-road and being made, for example, by Tesla in several thousands per week. Today. ???

Hey, hey, time to wake up, you are dreaming:sleep::sleep::sleep:

Note that the ITER fusion project estimates 2050 - 2060 for commercialization.
The Lockheed skunk works project (very risky, but hopeful) is 5-10 years from a prototype -- the size of an 18 wheeler.

in Japan 1 car already had a passive nuclear battery to charge the main battery.

it was the same battery used in fire exit lights and put out a whopping 300 watts of power for 30 years.

These nuclear batteries have been widely used in space, for example. Radioactive decay is converted to electricity with about 0.1% to 2% efficiency. Also used in tiny batteries where you need low power and long life. These have nothing to do with nuclear fusion.

Well, that's cool. Also used in pacemakers, so they can be tiny. I want one! (not a pacemaker). Wait until Elon finds out about this!

You do realize that last part was sarcasm/joke right? Right, right, we live in a post joke world, no one has any imagination, no one is allowed to have any fun, the world is on fire, and we've killed the planet. Got it.

As a side note, Toyota's hybrid tech is still basically magical sorcery for common folk. Its workings incomprehensible even after a lengthy explanation (trust me, I tried). Plus we don't know what kind of tech will emerge out of the Zero Emissions arms race, perhaps they'll perfect a way to efficiently extract hydrogen and screw batteries over like gasoline did, perhaps battery tech will advance so much that we'll have 10k range with a charge time of 10 secs. Tech marches on even beyond the imaginations of the human mind. Compare the first computers (which were building sized) to your smart phone, your smart phone is thousands of times more powerful yet fits in your pocket. But that's a tangent.

Backing up a bit, I feel like you're one of those crowds that believe that Tesla is the only way forward and that anyone not part of that is an ignorant, stupid polluter. Exploring different ideas and sticking to even far fetched goals is what drove much if not all of our tech innovations. Even failed venues that did not reach their intended goals could have yielded advancements in other fields. But then again, the Tesla crowd is pretty hard to talk to, so you can quote the following outlandish and sarcastic statement to high heavens if it makes you feel better:

"Battery tech is the only possible way to move forward and Tesla will become a trillion dollar company that will eventually buyout Disney, Google, and China. Everyone in the future will be driving a Tesla because all other manufacturers are failures."

I don't know why you 'feel' that way.
I also don't think most here are beholden to any single manufacturer. I'm a huge fan of Tesla, but I would drop them in a second if they weren't delivering the product I wanted to use.

Many here are fans of efficiency, and right now, today, batteries are more efficient than gasoline for personal transportation IF the battery vehicle meets your personal needs.

And yes, that is today. It will change in the future, things always do. But you can't buy the future today;)

I've had some bad experiences with some Tesla owners. Though it might have just been a bad bunch.

I wonder if the Honda CEO knows why Tesla is planning already, on building a 4th Giga Factory in Germany, capable of putting out 100's of thousands more electric cars every year.
Official: Tesla Gigafactory 4 To Be Built In Germany (Berlin)
He's obviously very well informed - & apparently thanks number 4 - as well as the other 3 battery sources is going to be a giant fail.

Taking a few examples and thinking it is representative of the group is difficult to avoid.
Rather than making generalizations, it is best to call them out at the time. Making broad generalizations and then insulting a whole group gives people a bad experience of your position.

I was actually just trying to sound a bit more polite but when I say some, I mean most of the Tesla owners I've interacted with has insulted me and demeaned my background after some discussions into the topic. Trying really hard not to affect my opinion on the company or the group in general is really hard when the majority of your interactions with the group has been less than "pleasant". To put it bluntly, it has happened often enough that I put that assumption now as a defense mechanism.

Edit: To be fair, the Tesla owners here that I've seen do not behave like the people I've interacted in real life which is why I added that I assume that I'm just with a bad bunch.

That can fairly easily lead to being a self fulfilling prophesy.
Just a fair warning from years on the forums. Your comment came off incredibly snarky and frankly condescending when no one here threw a punch at you.
It would not be unusual for anyone on the forum that thought you were targeting them, to react defensively.
You in turn could easily take that as affirmation of your original stance.

Round and round it goes, when it stops, nobody knows ;)

The challenges of forum based communications or not communications.

Lets accept that we can each have different experiences. And even perhaps that evangelists can sometimes be a bit over the top (see political candidate supporters) if you don't see their light their way.

My one in person experience with a Tesla owner was the son of a friend hearing I was interested said "a come on over and hop in and I'll take you for a ride". No evangelizing, just answered my questions. Had just driven his new 3 200 miles to visit his mother.

I've posted here several reasons for not buying a EV and a Tesla in particular. I wanted to hear what the counter arguments would be and see if my assumptions were wrong. Some of those postings were in response to a posting advanced by some of the true believers that seemed to say a Tesla is the right tool for every problem. Yet I came darn close to buying a Tesla this last time around only not doing it because I needed the form factor of a Y and they weren't available yet and the X was too big. I didn't take it that the people responding to me were anything other than typical forum denizens. And I learn when we advance positions based on facts and reasoning.

Not at all. But it should be obvious that in 2012 with the Model S and its success that Tesla has provided a proof point of what can be done. And by a small company. It is seriously embarrassing that this many years later none of the big car companies with 10x or 100x the resources of tiny Tesla hasn't been able to build a desirable EV to compete with them. Even while at the same time losing high end luxury market share.
