Is the "Kelly Blue Book" "Fair Purchase Price" good to go by ?

We are in South Carolina, when we go to buy a 2020 Toyota Prius Prime XLE more than likely the dealership will have to order it (delivery usually within 48 hours) so rather than being able to haggle about cars on the lot we will have to agree on a price before ordering and I want to have an idea what is the lowest price I reasonably should expect to get.

I found that "Kelly Blue Book" has a page which includes a "Fair Purchase Price" as well as a "Fair Market Range" (of course this is before taxes and fees).

For the 2020 Toyota Prius Prime XLE it lists the "Fair Purchase Price" as $29,068 and the "Fair Market Range" as $28,114 to $30,021 so does about $29,000 sound like a fair price or should I expect to get lower ?

Here is the link to that Kelly Blue Book page -

Note: South Carolina is one of the states where Toyota does not offer extra incentives so the only incentive available is the $4500 Federal tax incentive which we can't benefit from because of having most of our income from Social Security so the part time job would not generate enough federal tax due for that incentive to do us any good at all.

it's difficult on a new car, since condition is never an issue. you could try a buying service, or just email a bunch of dealers for quotes.

Thanks, that's what I figure too, just see what dealer wants to offer a lower price than other dealers and then decide if we still want to pay that much, was even thinking of buying used but used prices seem fairly high with some being so close to new prices it seems you'd have to buy one about 5 years old to really make a difference.

Wish we could travel north to buy but our responsibilities keep us close to home.

Some used ones I saw don't seem like worth saving just $2 or $3K, ones that were like about 2 or 3 years old with as much as 40K+ miles for only about $2K to $3K less than a new one !

I agree, we prefer new, especially considering the on going gas savings as I told my wife, not ready to buy immediately unless a fantastic deal popped up, otherwise will see about buying in a few months.

No dealerships around here seem to actually carry any in stock on purpose but one dealership I spoke to said if they ordered it for me they could have it for me within about 48 hours.

if you don't mind paying a little more, it's worth it.

i paid 30k for the pip, and it isn't half the car prime is.

Based on the KBB "Fair Purchase Price" on the XLE of $29,068 and a dealership offer I got in the past thru Truecar of about $29,600 I figure when we are ready to buy I hope to not pay any more than about $29,000 (before taxes and fees of course)

Now to get the $29,000 price we would have to forego all the optional accessories dealers like to add like special floor mats, ect., the total of which would have added about another $1000 to the cost, I figure if there are any individual add-ons we might want to later get I likely could get them cheaper on my own anyhow.

Trying to figure out what the "pip" is you mentioned, I am thinking an earlier model of the Prius ?
