    Does anyone know if it has a heatpump for heating the interior?
    Most plug-in hybrids are useless in wintertime since the ICE has to run to heat the cabin.

    It has a modified version of the Prius Prime heat pump.

    That is great news. This makes it more viable for us although my wife considers the RAV4 to be to big...

    Edmunds quoted a starting price of $36,400 during their preview of the RAV4 Prime. Not sure how they got this price. That’s probably for the SE version without the addition of the Weather and Moonroof Package (which includes a moonroof, heated steering wheel, heated outboard rear passenger seats and deicing/rain sensing windshield wipers). If that price is accurate you are probably looking at low $40,000+ for the XSE loaded.

    If true, I believe that undercuts the Mitsu Outlander PHEV? (It would in Canada if I extrapolate and assume that converts to about a $40k CAD base price vs. a $44k CAD base price for the Outlander PHEV)

    It is an intriguing value proposition. Double the battery, almost double the storage and AWD for not quite $2,800 more than the PP Limited. More than made up for by $3,000 more in tax credit. Also the possibility to get something not found in any PP, a moonroof. But I would spring for the weather and moonroof package for the heated steering wheel. I’ve grown rather fond of mine as I’ve used it just about every day.

    Since the Model Y is on the order of twice the price, with half the range, I don't really see these as competitive with each other. The Model Y is about spending a lot of money for a very fast all-electric while the Rav4 is about spending a lot less to get a lot less performance but the ability to go anywhere without hassle and a likely far more reliable car.

    +1 to the above except..... the Y will have AutoPilot standard plus the option of FSD.

    I mention those features because they are more important TO ME than its BEV qualities (both pro and con). If the RAV4P gets OpenPIlot certified, it will become a much easier decision for me.

    Agreed, they are wildly different cars, targeting vastly different consumers. About the only things they have in common are seat count and body shape.

    My understanding (not that great so correct me) is that the standard AP is basically just adaptive cruise and lane following, both of which the Rav4 will have standard. You'd have to have EAP or FSD (for $7k extra) for lane switching or the rest.

    I believe EAP is standard now (so ACC + LKA but also Navigate on AP and Lane Change Assist). FSD is the only option now.

    Well, the Model Y website says this:

    "Autopilot included - Enables your car to steer, accelerate and brake automatically for other vehicles and pedestrians within its lane."

    That sounds a lot like Adaptive Cruise + Lane Trace Assist.

    If you select FSD (for $7k), you get this:

    "Full Self-Driving Capability
    • Navigate on Autopilot: automatic driving from highway on-ramp to off-ramp including interchanges and overtaking slower cars.
    • Autopark: both parallel and perpendicular spaces.
    • Summon: your parked car will come find you anywhere in a parking lot. Really.
    • Recognize and respond to traffic lights and stop signs.
    • Automatic driving on city streets."

    Adaptive cruise and lane keeping systems are not the same between brands, or even models.

    Oh I don't disagree with you in that AutoPilot is just their fancy name for adaptive cruise and lane keep just like Honda Sensing or (Mazda) iActiveSense or Toyota Safety Sense.

    You know, there was a time where I dreamed of Tesla as the ultimate car - and it still is a very desirable brand - however with more recent stories of reliability concerns (particularly in light of the high cost), I am not so eager any more. I have always loved driving (even in Toronto, lol) and appreciate a quality and reliable vehicle, but I don’t choose my vehicle as a status symbol or ego-boost. In fact, in my opinion that is a significant negative to buying a Tesla - good luck ever trying to talk yourself out of a traffic ticket, lol, and with the horses those vehicles have, it is very easy to speed. :)

    IMO, it really is difficult to move away from the Toyota hybrid family, given the stellar reliability record over ~20 years. On my 2nd Prius now and every other vehicle seems like a step down in efficiency and/or reliability.

    The RAV4 Prime sure is tempting as it offers some of the creature comforts I wish the Prius Prime did (moonroof, more cargo space, memory & cooled seats, etc), but the rational side of me says that the Prius Prime is still the best fit for my needs, given I do most of my driving alone for work, and our family of 4 (+ dog) is complete. (Especially now with 5 seats and CarPlay). I am just a rational person that way. While the cost difference between the Prius and RAV should not be more than a few thousand dollars on paper, other costs such as worse financing rates for a hot new model, higher fuel consumption, and more expensive wheels/tires.... and insurance is TBD, but with 302hp, I have to think it will cost more to insure than a Prius, lol. Then the delta becomes considerably larger. o_O

    But I digress... sorry for going a bit OT. ;)
