    Good Morning Prius Chat Team,

I need some help with my 2011 Prius. I have some form of vibration or ticking noise when I am moving at slow speeds from 5-12 mph while on battery and then the engine kicks in once the battery is low. The noise is not present when on battery and moving but while moving at the same speeds when the engine kicks on at low rpms there is a noticeable abnormal sound. I have about 150K miles with no check engine lights on. Took it to Toyota and they said i needed tires, which is not what is making a tapping or ticking noise.

I also put the vehicle in drive and had my wife power brake it to see if I could identify it coming from the cooling fans or something on the driver side...

    Any suggestions?

    Welcome to Prius chat(y).

    Some questions:
    • Has your Prius ever been run low on oil?
    • What maintenance has been done recently?
    • Are there any dash lights?
    • If there are dash lights, do you have something that can read them?

Good luck and keep us posted(y).

    Hi Ray,

no it’s never been ran low of oil. Oil changes have been made at Toyota dealership. Recently had oil changed but the Prius was doing this before. No cel dash lights ever.

In gen3 land, you're having to change your first post to a thread;).

    12 volts and egr circuits:).

We'll be cleaning one this afternoon(y).

Some of the forums need a sticky revisit;).

I wonder if @Tideland Prius is receptive to change:whistle:?

But I'd be on board with that(y).

he did bite on the 'living in your car forum', quiet as it is, compared to egr problems.

I think there's more in maintenance land than sleeping in your car;).

While we get the occasional Prius living post, we see egr stuff all the time:cool:.

And the oil change interval change is old news:whistle:.

    Here's to change(y).

No but what I’m reading it’s probably due! Several videos on YouTube of how the cooler gets clogged. The car runs fine at 30-70 mph so I am guessing at slower speeds it may be bogging it down.

It starts to feel like emergency triage: "3rd gen Prius? 150K miles? Experiencing some shaking at start up? Ever cleaned the EGR and intake manifold? Never heard of that? Take a number"...
