When I make turns, every once in a while that sign will light up and beep, very briefly. In the owner's manual it is just a maintenance problem indicator, which is unfortunately too general. I called the dealership and of course they were no help. They said they would have to do a diagnosis for $155 or something like that. I'm not stupid, so I'm obviously not going to do that. By the way the car runs fine and there are no warning messages. Maybe just take it to my mechanic? Any of you have any clue as to what could be causing it? It's almost like fluid moves to one side when I turn, making a sensor think something's empty so it goes off. Or maybe a bad sensor? It's a 2012 by the way, with no parts changed. Runs beautifully.

You might be able to find a picture in the Owner's Manual so you can show us exactly which light is coming on.

Or if it is flashing too quickly to be sure, maybe one of those phone holder clamps, clip a phone to your headrest or something so it can video the dash, then later you can grab a frame when the light is on, and see for sure.

What is your engine oil level? When did you last check it?

I'm not sure just which indicator was momentarily lit up on turns on engines with low oil, but numerous others have reported it here.

    Yeah check the oil first.

Shop around; $155 is a little steep, to hook up to the OBD port for a couple of minutes to check codes. If you can't figure anything out, I would still recommend a dealership diagnostic as the next step.

How many miles on it btw.

There are only a few warning lights that have an exclamation point. Did it look like:

Open & close all doors and trunk, I get that same light at times not wanting to slam but gently close them.

For the trunk left ajar, I get the seemingly unrelated "Key Not Detected" warning.

Master Warning Light, see page 507 of your Owner's Manual.

There should be a written warning message too, and the OM shows 5 illustrated pages of possibilities.

The very first example is "LOW ENGINE OIL PRESSURE", which usually means low engine oil. The pattern of appearing only with turns strongly hints at this one.

So have you checked your oil level yet? If not, go do so RIGHT NOW! before you forget, and before anyone drives it again.

    ABSOLUTELY!!
Do not start it till you check the oil. 99% chance you won't see any on the dipstick.

btw, if there is no oil on the dipstick, that is not a good thing.

Let us have hope that is not throwing the light on mfd.

And if that turns out OK, then check the level of the brake fluid.
And if that is low, then get the brakes checked. It might be time for new pads.

Yes, that bizarre combination has puzzled many of us. But so many people had reported it before it happened to me, that I had no trouble finding and fixing it.

Just in case this is new info ...

I kind of hope the problem turns out to be something besides oil level. But it would be very good to check the oil level. The reason was already hinted at by fuzzy1 in post 10:

The wording there is important. Like most cars, the Prius does not have any kind of sensor to tell when your oil level is getting kinda low. That would be a nice sensor to have, but you don't.

There is only a LOW OIL PRESSURE sensor, which can only tell you when your oil level is already so low that the pump is slurping air and the moving parts of your engine are not getting oil.

It is essentially the "at this moment your engine is eating itself" warning.

    So go check that oil.

"No oil stain on the driveway"...oh well that makes all the difference. You couldn't possibly be low...VERY low.... on oil if there's no oil stain on the driveway.
You ask advice on the forum and almost unanimously everyone says check the oil but you have a great reason not to bother...so why ask at all then? I'm guessing you don't know how to check it. "nudriver" is my clue..............
In your original post you said and I quote.... "I'm not stupid". If you don't check your oil....then yes you are! Takes about 2 minutes....if you don't know how and don't want to admit it, there are youtube videos on how to check the oil in a vehicle.
