Nice as it appears to be .... if Porsche went to the same level of detail with installing a DC QC network - they might get more than a handful of purchases - despite being priced on the high side. As it stands - their DC network is some 10,000 units behind Tesla's network. 800V is great - but not if you have to drive miles & miles just to get to the few that exist. You'll need that 20 minute charge speed just to compensate for the extra drive. Maybe in ½ a decade, we'll check back.

if porsche has no plans for model3/y type vehicles, it is all for naught.

Why "designed to take on Tesla"? How about taking on LICE cars - a whole lot more space to expand into.

You don’t think a couple at every track would cover it? When else would you need a quick charge for a car like that?

well - that certainly is one way to look at it. The other way is, the same Audi A3 &/or Volkswagen Golf that use a gas pump, also gets used by the 911 Turbo cab. The Rev2 Tesla Roadster will use the same infrastructure as is being used by the model 3. In short, most people that buy a six-figure car wanted to do lots of stuff, as well as the little stuff that all of the cheap cars can do - whether or not they ever do it.

I guess the way I see it, that A3 & Golf are getting replaced by cars that normally charge at home and sometimes at the destination, so why wouldn’t that work for the e-Porsche too?

The ability to avoid centralized public energy replenishment is a feature of the electric car.

Isn't it the same goal of electric transportation? To have the same features? As gass'ers?

i would say the goal should be to make them as practical and convenient as gassers.

some things will be similar, and others completely different

completely different - do you mean like the possibility of refueling without having to drive to a location? Or did you mean being able to generate your own fuel at home - for free.

I was thinking more along the lines of not having to own two cars, one for commuting and the other for trips

I appreciated the article and then looked at the EPA metrics:
    • 68 MPGe (50 kWh/100 mi) - Taycan Turbo S
    • 97 MPGe (35 kWh/100 mi) - Model S
Apparently efficiency is not in Porsche design practice.

Or in Europe somebody actually decided to do it:

French startup uses battery trailers to cure electric-car range angst

60kWh trailers you can rent for €34/ day
