Watched this 24 min long 2020 Chevy Bolt road trip video because Chevy currently has some killer deals on Bolts and wanted to see how they did on road trips. 2020 Bolt EPA range is 259 miles, PP 640 miles. From the video you'll see why the 259 Bolt range is not fully usable due to charging stations locations, slower charge times as you get above 65% SOC, and other factors.

His 621.4 mile out and back from Baker, CA to Beaver, UT trip took just under 12 hours door-to-door, 4 stops to charge, and cost around $37. PP could do in 10 hours, no stops (I would probably do one in Beaver, UT), and about the same $37.

Verdict - Until BEVs get longer range (Tesla is approaching it with 300 plus, I'll stick with my PP.

Or every current gas station is equipped with non vehicle specific chargers that can recharge 300+ miles in 10 minutes. And cars are produced to recharge that fast. That “might” get me to thinking.

That’s where I (and possibly Toyota) feel Hydrogen could step up to the plate. Fast “recharge times” utilizing existing service station infrastructure. Win win.

Last summer I was doing many 600+ miles drives on a single day. Even if I had a long range BEV, most likely I would not have been able to complete the trip in a single day, due to lack of a charge station en rout or at the destination and the time constraint I had.

You can’t use a gas station to refuel hydrogen, except for the real estate

Bevs are ready for the people who are ready for bevs

Amazing how we can discuss the same thing day after day, fun!(y)

Yes, sounds like a broken record, for those that know what a record is :) But hey, we've got nothing better to do while we're charging our BEVs.

You mean you can’t add a Hydrogen storage “tank” and “dispenser” at existing service stations?

PHEV makes the MOST sense for long road trips that are > 200 miles.

Research hydro stations in Cali for details, and you’ll find out why there are so few

You sure can, for about 10 times the value of the current station. How will you get hydrogen there? Ina truck about 10 times the cost of the current tanker. It never ends.

You can for a price, but it's money thrown away if there isn't the infrastructure in place to get hydrogen to you.

I've been thinking of trading in my Prime and get Bolt due to insane deals going on right now as well. But so far haven't pull the trigger yet.
Mainly use it for 100 miles round trip work commute. 2020 Bolt in the dealership close to me sold almost 10 Bolts in 3 weeks.

Can you post links to said deals? What are we comparing to here? I'm coming up to the 30 month mark for my PP and am considering selling to a different car as well (for more EV range).

Yes current $8,500 cash back ends today. Hopefully it will increase and if they give a higher trade-in for my Prime, I might switch. :D
Remember you need to give up some of the rebate from CVRP if u sell your car less than 36 months.

In that situation, EV makes the most sense.

Yup the Bolt will certainly work. Enough for my work commute.
