Seems like a trustworthy scientist...

 

I'll perk up when they get a spare in it, and a few other bits-and-bobs. Yes, mechanically it's great.

 

He really looks like the epitome of a climate scientist.

But so true, many EV enthusiasts forget that environmental friendliness of a car is not a black and white question about gasoline or no gasoline but a little linear optimization problem.

For a car that is hardly ever driven, the pure gasoline guzzler is actually the 'greenest shit'. It takes many miles before the debt of battery production is overcome by the savings of gasoline. And that amount of miles depends on the battery size and the energy mix.

PHEVs like the Prius Prime fill the perfect spot in between, and that's unlikely to change in the next decade or two, until the energy mixes used for lithium mining, battery manufacture, and home charging have become much greener.

 

I was going to say, "Climate scientist owns a car?" But the bio suggests he's old enough that this is going out with a bang.

 

I got some of my best gas mileage also around the Green Mountains area, as he says he does. Seems like a smart guy.

I should also add that I have never seen as many Primes anywhere else than Vermont. They are almost everywhere you drive.

 

Maybe too cynical, but I honestly think we've passed the point of no return already. Sadly, most people do not buy a car to save the earth.

But I still like my PRIME.. So far the most fuel efficient car I have ever owned, but not the most economical car, not yet. That crown goes to my HCH.

 

I'm only mostly ready to concede that we are past the overall point of no return, but I am completely convinced that we're past the point where anybody's choice of an automobile is going to make a difference.

 

Honda Civic Hybrid... my first hybrid car ever. Not the most popular hybrid car among Prius fans, but mine lasted long enough to make it the most economical car I have ever owned.

 

I think he emphasized it exactly correctly: Maybe or maybe not the ideal PHEV, but almost certainly one of the most, if not the most, overall efficient cars ever.

 

I agree with both of you, however, I believe the effects will be seen much faster and hit harder than current studies have shown. The feedback mechanisms are starting to accelerate and there’s not a dang thing we can do about it.

They act as damns to the ice on the land. So the rise won't be in a week, but it will speed up.
