One thing I like about our Prius Prime is that we’re putting so little wear and tear on the engine — the engine wearing out being often what ultimately “does it in.” So, it’s conceptually possible we could keep this car for 20 or more years, if we so choose. The P.Prime’s fuel-cost savings are considerable, but spending $35K on a car once every 20 years rather than once every 12 years, represents serious savings!

If the trend continues, machines will become self-aware in 20 years, and cars will own people, not the other way around. ;)

That sounds like a glitch. I couldn’t see any fixes infrastructure in that google streetview that would’ve triggered PCS Brake.

Even bridge steel plates only trigger as BRAKE! warning and beep but never auto-brake.

The bend is too far for PCS to react.

Possibly but my experience is that it just beeps and warns you. At the rate he’s going (slow acceleration), I doubt it’ll auto brake. I’ve had it flash “BRAKE” and beep before when the car in my lane is turning left and brakes before their turn while I’m keeping my speed, knowing they’ll clear the lane before I arrive. I’ve never had PCS Brake activate.

That braking was done by the ICS (Intelligent Clearance Sonar) system and not the radar-based PCS. Prime Plus and Premium models (LE/XLE) will not auto-brake towards a wall.

This has happened to us twice now in the last 4 months. First time my husband didn't believe me when I said there was nothing to trigger it. Second time he was driving and it happened under the same conditions but in a different part of town: slow moving traffic, it was daylight, no small animals ran in front of us, and he was not too close to a car in front. Luckily the people behind us were paying attention but probably thought we were terrible drivers. I am scared of it causing an accident one day too. Only plus is now he believes it wasn't my driving lol.
