    Hi!

    I previously owned a 2016 Prius eco-model, and I loved it.

I bought a 2020 Prius LE, and it shuts off at least once an hour if not 10 or more times.
It always does it if car is in ready mode, and parked.

    Why is this happening?
Is it possible to stop it? If not, I will have to sell the car.

The Eco model never once shut down on me.

Would it possible to trade in the 2020 for a 2016 or version of eco model that does not constantly shut off?

Go back to your dealer - the Vehicle Data Recorder, and/or the Event Data Recorder should tell them what's wrong. Likely to be some minor matter.

the new system will automatically turn off the engine after a certain amount of time. Toyota doesn't say how long the car will wait before shutting the engine off,.....

    AUTO SHUT OFF?
    starting with 2020 models

New Toyotas Will Automatically Shut the Engine Off and Go into Park

maybe you can look in the manual to see if it can be disabled?
but doubtful, since it is a safety feature and perfect for enclosed spaces.
    but possible maybe?

Or to see if the Prius HAS this feature. It makes littlt sense when the engine turns off when warmed up anyway.
A quick look the Customizations section in the manual has no mention of this.

The warnings about leaving the car parked & running make no mention of this either.

Then OP has a serious issue with the Prius.

I would assume a 2020 is still under warranty, should be taken to the dealer and looked further into.

If I'm understanding this correctly, that means the new Prius will no longer be suitable for camping. It seems that Toyota does not want to acknowledge that some people specifically buy a Prius with that purpose in mind.

    coming from Toyotas mouth:
Toyota Plans to Deploy Automatic Engine Shut Off and Automatic Park Features to Vehicle Line Up - Toyota USA Newsroom

I cannot find any info on "auto shut-off" on any toyotas, but says "Starting with most Model Year 2020 vehicles"

Maybe if it is not in the manual, then maybe it cannot be deactivated, or only by dealer.

That seems like a scenario where having the car automatically shut down after a period of time would be a good thing, saving the HV battery. I suppose it could be like the beep on going into reverse, where if people go to the trouble of buying a device like Carista to disable it, or go to the dealer and ask them to do it, it can be done, but most people would not bother. Hopefully we are not locked into what Toyota decides is best for all of us, since we all have our individual needs and preferences.

I agree, hopefully it can be disabled
I would imagine it IS POSSIBLE, since I dont think it is a mandated fed law.
I dont think the numbers of it hurting people in confined spaces (like garages) are high for it to be.

i have been to three different dealers, and all three of them have told me they have not heard of this happening, and do not know what to do, but according to them there is nothing wrong with the car since it doesn’t shut off automatically at the dealership.i was told to get it shutting off on videotape. I have called lemon law lawyers. I paid cash for the car in full faith it would be another great car like the 2016 eco model.

I really hope it can be disabled. One day it didn’t shut off for 24hours, and I was so happy thinking there must be a way to get it to stop shutting off, then the next day, back to shutting completely off anywhere from once to over 10 times an hour.

I just spoke with fhe dealership I bought it from, and was told “it’s just something to get used to” I’m trying to figure out how to get a different car now. Ridiculous.

Your brand new completely paid for car completely shutting down is not something “to get used to.”

I called Toyota at the 1-800# and made a case. I didn’t know you could do that- the man was very kind and helpful. A case manager is supposed to contact me with in 24hours. I’ll let everyone know the outcome.

Somewhere in PriusChat, I read (4 yrs ago probably) where someone left theirs "ON" at the airport, came back a few days - maybe was a week? and it was still running, almost out of fuel.

How long before it turns off after you've parked?

To satisfy our curiosity, and perhaps document your case for future reference if someone else ever has this happen, can you be a little more specific about conditions when it occurs? I'm guessing it doesn't happen when you are just driving down the road, but sitting at a traffic light, perhaps? Does the dash turn off completely when it shuts down, with no warning lights showing? Are there any messages on the Multi Function Display before it shuts down? Inquiring minds want to know.

I read you said "One day it didn’t shut off for 24hours" - and wondering why you didn't shut it down earlier? The norm is for a car to be shut down when you stop.

Will the car shut off within minutes of parking?
or can you elaborate further if you are parked in "Ready" for maybe an hour or more until it shuts off?

From what I gather, you are parking for long periods of time.
The auto shut off that Toyota is implying on their vehicles would give alerts possibly beforehand.
Is there any warnings before shutting down?
Are you idling. waiting in "Ready"
    also, any climate control on?

We are extremely curious. (if you cannot tell already:D)

    Wait.

By "shutoff" do you mean like as though you hit the start/stop button and the car completely shuts down?

Or do you mean the motor shuts off, but everything else is still powered up?
