Hi All, I’ve been reading and learned a lot on this forum lately, so thanks for all the good info.

My son totaled our 2010 gen 3 level 4 in December, he was fine and it did it’s job protecting him, and I spent about a month and a half finding a perfect replacement. I wanted one at least as nice as the old car. It was tough to find an advanced with low miles. I don’t like the exterior or interior styling of the Prime. Plus I wanted to spend around $15K.

Found a 2012 Advanced with only 27,000 miles for $16K. Loving it. The only thing it, and all PiPs, don’t have is the solar sunroof. But I’m enjoying the dynamic cruise control and amazing mpg.

    2 questions:

    1. Is it worth it to use entune anymore? The tech is 8+ years old and phones have come a long way. It seems like you need a subscription to use the energy management app which is probably not worth it for an old app/service that’s obsolete. I use an iPhone.

    2. I only got one fob and no metal plate with the key code on it. Can a dealer duplicate the fob without it? Is there a cheaper way to get a replacement fob compared to buying at a dealer?

    Thanks.

I realized those 2 question are more general Prius questions so I’ll look in the other sub forums but if anyone knows the answers / has opinions id like to hear them.

Buy a NEW FOB online and go to a real locksmith.

Entune is worth the subscription. Unlike the Base model, your Advanced PIP has all the features available to it. That includes email notifications for charging complete and charging interrupted. You also get remote charge management, charge timer, remote climate, GPS vehicle finder, and my favorite, which is Eco Dashboard. That lets you see how well your driving compares to the top 100 other PIP drivers each month. If you're not sure yet, sign up for the shortest trial, it might even be free for a newly registered owner. Then, change your name on the app to something meaningful, just "for nice."

You set me on the right path and I found an even cheaper way. I realized I still had a leftover FOB from our totaled Gen III with Solar Sunroof (so it even has the A/C button). I found a local / mobile locksmith who came to me and programmed the FOB and cut a new blank key for $100.

Thanks for the info. That's a great idea on the trial. I'll give it a try.
