After doing so much searching about this, I figured I'd email Toyota myself and ask if there were any plans to provide an update to add "Android Auto" to the 2020 Prius Prime.

Here is a quote from their reply yesterday:

".....there are no current plans for Toyota to introduce a software update to add Android Auto as an available feature for the audio system in the 2020 Prius Prime" (end quote)

Note that the word "current" could imply it MIGHT be something they could later on plan to do.

Also, it could infer that it IS something that is possible to do "tech wise" or they simply could have said it is not technically possible to do.

I did a follow-up email for further clarification and asked if adding Android Auto at a later date might still be something that could eventually happen, or should we just completely give up on expecting it to ever be added to the 2020 Prius Prime.

(and also asked IF they would never do it, then why not ?)

    …...hopefully I'll have a reply within a few days !

Honestly, I wouldn't read that much into their response. It sounds like boilerplate text for "we don't plan to do it but we never say never because if something changes we'll get called out on it." In other words: no.

 …..well, we still have about 80-100 days before delivery of our 2020 Prime XLE so no hurry to decide, IF Android Auto still not available or planned by then, I'd likely first see if I'm okay with what I can do with the built-in maps/navigation and with being able to connect my android phone thru Bluetooth for hands-free phone calls. Getting a cheap used iPhone would be my last resort

I definitely understand what you are saying :D that is why I did a follow-up email just to see how they would respond to a more specific question, hey, I can still hope they might actually surprise us :D

Yeah, I got "While Toyota strives to innovate and look for ways to include new technology in our vehicles, Toyota has not announced an Android Auto® retrofit strategy at this time. We certainly appreciate your inquiry and interest" a month ago. Maybe 'at this time' gives hope for the future, maybe it's lawyer speak for 'anything may happen just don't take our word and sue over it'.

I understand what you mean

At least in the reply you got it sounded a little more like a possibility though when they specified "Android Auto® retrofit strategy" as it made it sound more like an actual program :D

I have yet to get a response from my follow up inquiry.
