2021 or 2022 Prius Prime will have better battery config

The parking brake resulted in a recall before the second model year came out. In an older article, CR's example on how far a new or redesign first year reliability can drop from the manufacturer's average was the Rav4. As I said, an older article, and Toyota's are a good bet in general, but problems have a better chance of happening in that first year.

Today, it generally won't an issue, but if you don't need a car right away, it doesn't hurt to wait.

it took toyota a long time to repair the 2010 ills. not sure if the piston and ring updates from 14 and 15 solved the problems, and we all know about the brake actuator

i think the 10 may have had the worst rattles, and they may or may not have solved the oil change under panel problem.

Thank you all for your time and advice. Lots to think about.

In my 33 years on this earth I've never actually bought a brad new car and while I do see lot of lower priced PPs in the northeast, where I'm at in KC there are barely any Toyota dealers stocking PPs and they seem to be fairly close to MSRP...while the tax credit is nice...I generally think of it as essentially close to 30k car when all is said and done. I can pay for it in cash today but figured if I can get below 2 or 2.5% rate, I'd rather finance and invest the difference.

I do plan to keep the car for many MANY years (hopefully 20) but with all the tech the longevity is a concern...imagine early adopters of EV cars and how fast tech has moved in just the past 5-10 years. But then again as people have already mentioned...if I keep waiting for the next best thing that's just 1-2 years away...I'll be waiting forever!

So here's another question too....why is it that it seems like Prius Primes are stocked not very equally amongst the dealers? Midwest has nothing and then I see a TON out in Northeast....I'd love to get a good deal flying out there to buy one in MA/VT/RI, but then again this goes against my thought of being fully NOT rushed into buying a car....so if one were to fly in from out of town that seems like you're almost setting yourself up to have to buy a car that day/weekend....

Have you seen what used Volts are going for in our area?
The Volt has 38 or 50 mile rated EV range, depending on the model year, and it's a 100% EV when in EV mode.
Most PHEV's will fire up that stinky, cold engine to assist with getting up to highway speeds, or if you select Defrost.

It's a great way to dip your toe in the True EV waters before taking the plunge to a BEV. (That was my path!)
The reliability records are great! Up to 2 yrs on an oil change. With the prime it's every 10k miles,,, regardless. :(

This 'improved prime' exists ! On the used car market, The Volt.
Only it's not a 'Compact SUV' or whatever they are calling those hatchback cars.

Toyota is heavily incentivizing CARB states, so they can sell more Tacoma and Tundra. As for buying out of states, there are some risks. I suggest you negotiate everything and have price and term set before flying out to make the purchase much smoother.

?Say what? Can you describe this feeling further?

It has the typical 8 yr. / 100 k mile warranty on the drive train and battery.

But I agree, it's not for Bigons. But the last gen was a 5 seater, in theory...

I’m referring to gm’s handling of it, and its discontinuation.
Don’t get me wrong, a nice little car.

Unlike DeLorean, GM is still around, so service and parts will still be available.

Have you sat in one. It is smaller than the PiP, but might be big enough where it counts for your needs.

No, it’s not for me, I already owned a discontinued Oldsmobile

    Are you getting one?

I've considered it, but there are more BEV options now. Besides, the Camry is only at 56k miles.

The plan in a few years is to get a used BEV, Bolt at top of list, and eventually replace the Camry with something that can haul and tow for trips.
