I bought my first Prius 30 days ago and have been having issues already. Avoiding the annoying side story, I'm trying to get the car right. It appears the brake actuator is on its way out (brake "barking" and I can hear it running way too much) plus dash lights lite up. I went and pulled an actuator today from the junk yard and just ohm tested it based on the chart I found here.

Hoping someone can offer advice here. Everything seems to be within specs except I'm getting no reading from SMC1 and SMC2.

    Below area my reading:

*Leads alone tested at 1.7 ohm, not subtracted from my listed numbers below

    BM2-GND1 2.2
    BM1-GND1 2.2
    BM2-BM1 2.0
    GND1-GND2 1.4
    BM2-MTT 505
    BM1-MTT 505

    20(SMC1)-7(BS2) No Reading
    6(SMC2)-19(BS1) No Reading

    All remaining readings were 4.9

    Is the unit bad?

    I appreciate and advice.

    Welcome to PriusChat!!

Can you share which codes (DTCs) you pulled from the ECUs when using an OBD2 scanner?

I'm waiting for my mini vci cable to come in today to properly pull the codes. I pulled codes with a paperclip though and got ABS 42 and brake warning light 69 (counting flashing lights method).

The unit I tested I'm asking about now was pulled from a junk yard though and has not been installed yet.

Unfortunately, those two don't look good for you. It does seem to confirm your suspicions about the accumulator though.

    DTC Blink Code Detection Item
    1 C1242 42 Open in IG1 / IG2 Power Source Circuit
    2 C1391 69 Accumulator Leak Malfunction

    Diagnostic Trouble Code Chart

DTC C1391/69 | Abnormal Leak Of ACC Press
    DTC C1242/42 | IG2 Power Source Circuit

I'd probably focus on the C1391 because when you have fixed and then cleared the codes, you will likely not get the C1242 setting again.

So there question is, is there a way to test an actuator pulled from a junk yard? That was my original question. I pulled one already to swap into my car.

What is the part number? You would have the best luck with the newest upgraded part, 44500-47141. 44500-47140 is also the upgraded version I believe.
