    Hello Everyone,

I finally finished the installation of blind spot detector (microwave radar) by Novosonic for my 2013 Prius. It didn't come with an On and Off switch so I went and ordered a customed one online. Everything is working like a charm!

    Nicely done.
Is there any false alert (like driving next to a wall/curve, large objects on the side of the road etc.?

Thanks! That was my initial concern too before purchasing it, but no false alert. It works by detecting any objects closing in towards the sensors (rear bumper). So, when backing up both LED warning lights as well as the beeper gets triggered. One thing I do notice is when a moving vehicle gets close it will alarm and turn off when it no longer senses any movement (i.e. running at the same speed) and goes off again the moment the adjacent vehicle speeds up. I have also angled the sensor where it alarms whenever a vehicle is directly behind me, triggering both left and right warning lights to illuminate. It even picks up movements from pedestrians or animals that get close to the sensors when not in motion. I've been pretty impressed with it.

    That's really great.
And it looks like a great job installing it, and modifying an Off/On switch.

    Unfortunately?
Please don't bother telling me it's an easy project. I know my strengths and weaknesses. There is no way, I could install that system, that wouldn't end up being very embarrassing, and costing me a lot of money to repair the damage I would do trying.

Thanks! I surely did take some risks. Even with great deal of planning I was still a little nervous. I am fortunate it turned out as how I was hoping it to be.

    This is a great add-on!
The operating principle and installation make decent enough sense.
Definitely congrats on a very neat install and useful upgrade.

It would be fun to add an AI voice, linked with the backup camera.
"Enraged man approaching picking his nose"
"Attractive blonde in a Mercedes, eyes left"
"Check out the alloys on this next car"

I like the custom switch too, though I just know i'd order some with 'Rocket Launcher', 'Machine Guns', 'Smoke Screen' written on them for traffic.

That's pretty cool! My family has eight 2017 and 2018 Honda CR-V (crazy I know!) and my mother-in-law has a 2016 Lexus RX350 and they all have blind spot warning lights in the mirror. I have never used it because I adjusted the mirrors to eliminate any blind spots. However, when there is a car next to me and turn the turn signal on, the steering wheel shakes and the car beeps letting me know there's a car next to me. I do find that useful.

I really like the place for the warning lights. Looks great!

I put them on every new vehicle I get.
    Called "Spot mirrors".
Available from AutoZone for about $5 a pair. :)

Google "Novosonic Microwave Blind Spot" and you should find other vendors. I found this on Amazon

I did a diy bsm from pioneer - easier than this bsm as it’s a single license plate device. I posted about it on Prius prime/ plug in accessories and modifications forum.

here’s a photo while I was testing it
