I love my gen1 PIP but truly hate the Prius Prime.

I know that I am going to get beat up for my comments. I just cant stand the rear and front design of the prius prime. What was toyota thinking of with that design? The prime is more efficient than my PIP. Yes, I give it that for efficiency. However ,when I pull up behind one,or see the front of one one the road, I am glad I didn't pay a few grand more and got one. I know I am going to be called a prime hater for my comments. So guys, go ahead and beat my brains out.

You are NOT ALONE, I am in the same lines @techie47
I am planning for a Tesla 3 OR some close used EV (even a Kia Nero also a possible) but definitely not Prime.
    I like my PIP though.
Yey!!! we are together in this :)

I’ve given up poking fun at the G4’s looks for Lent.

    Advice:
Drive the 2015 until it face-plants.....then get an adult style PHEV or just make the leap to a BEV.

You have 5-10 years to think about depending on how well you take care of the Pip.

Don't look at me to start the beating.

I'm hoping Toyota comes to their senses with the next gen, but not holding my breath. :cautious:

i could overlook the looks if they reconfigure the battery. most of the time, i'm on the inside looking out.

if it makes you feel any better, this same thread has been repeated several times over the last 3 years

Make sure your hybrid system is good or we would have to take it to green bean or green tech or Prius HybridRepair

I think that the front of the 4th gen Prius looks better than the Prime and have no problem with the rear. Around here, at least, it is easy to spot in a parking lot. On the other hand, the cockpit displays are far better in the Prime than the PIP. I always had problems with the green display when wearing sun glasses.

My brother has a gen 1 that my brothers uses he says it’s clean and hasn’t had a problem with car yet. He got it new in 2003 it’s a 2003 white Prius he likes it a lot. Only problem he’s live in below Indianapolis which is 10 hours from dc so I couldn’t help him if he had a problem right away with the car besides last week when he had the P250D and red triangle because he had too much. oil in it.

My Prius Prime is ugly as sin, but still the best car I've ever owned. I never realized how much I hated dumping dead dinos into my car every week until I started going months between fill-ups.

One of the things keeping me out of one is I'm not sure I could drive it and still feel like an adult. I keep thinking next years model will be sensible... Nope, not yet 8-(

Can you tell me how the ride compares with the ride of a PiP?

funny thing is, they changed the gen4 rear and left the prime alone. maybe the extended carbon fibre hatch with bubble window is just too much investment to change after only 3 years.

Ride and handling are a quantum improvement.

I'm an engineer, so function trumps form in my book. When car shopping, looks are well down my check list. That said, I still appreciate looks. I've had a Gen 2 Prius, a PiP, and the Prime. None of the first two ever received a compliment on looks. The Prime has had a bunch. My favorite was from a friend with a 2019 Stingray, which I think is one of the nicest looking cars ever. If HE liked my Prime, I'm really happy.

You had some significant road trips with extra people and luggage in the PIP. What about storage space etc. with the Prime in comparison?

weird. I think the Prime is one of the best looking cars available today. In fact, I've always hated the look of the regular non-Prime Prius, but when I first saw the Prime I became interested. For me, the design made me look into buying one.

There were just the two of us. Space wasn't a problem. With any car on a multi-week trip we fill the cargo area and the back seat. We did have to use more and smaller "luggage" since we had the donut spare in the back. It all fit and we still kept the tonneau cover in place, although it was a little lumpy. ;)

If it was a family of four, it would not have been practical, but then I don't think I want to do that in a regular Prius either. My wife packs heavy. If we'd piled stuff higher, we could have added a passenger, but no luggage, I'm sure.

Cooler is on floor behind driver's seat under the sun shade.

Spare is buried at under the red coat & sweatshirt.

Tonneau cover in place!! More or less. (y)
