Steering assist greyed out?

    I have a 2016 prius with DRCC and LDA, when I start LDA it says "Steering Assist Active" but steering assist is not active as I have tried to let it steer for me on small curves.. It just beeps at me for leaving the lane.
    In the car's setting steering assist is greyed out and I am not able to select it, along with the icon below it.. The selection just skips over it. Does my car not have the physical components required for Steering assist, or have I just not enabled it correctly?

    i feel dumb.. i enabled LDA then when it me settings and was able to enable it.

    I've been playing around with the LDA a little over the weekend. While it's a nice little tactile bump to get my / a driver's attention, I don't think it would keep me in my lane if the highway had any curves in it.

    For both our cars, the assisted correction is so slight it is almost nil. I'd like it to be a bit more aggressive, but can't seem to increase it.
    (It wouldn't have helped my son, who, this morning at 3am, fell asleep at the wheel in our neighborhood, climbed a curb with both left side wheels of his car at about 30mph. NO damage, other than scuffed front air dam, slight scrape to the hubcap/wheel...WHEW!)

    Prius LKA is very weak in stock settings while our Honda is much stronger and will actively steer thru curves (before timing out). You can watch videos of each stock system in action to get a better idea.

    I now have an OpenPilot setup(s), and have tried it on both cars. Because that tech allows more control over steering power and because the Toyota steering motor has more (previously unused) torque than my particular Honda, the Prius will now complete more auto steering tasks than the Honda; so go figure! :confused:

    I've not experienced it but I "heard" somewhere that 2020 Toyotas have more torque now.

    Wow! Thank goodness he is alright, and that the car isn't too badly damaged.

    Back when I was in EMS, I had to use my Leatherman pliers to pull the plastic dash out of one of my co-workers' (was not on that call, did not know it happened there at 2 AM) brother's legs to be able to pull him out of a truck he fell asleep while driving. He hit a brick / concrete gate post. During extrication with my co-workers - and possibly local volunteer fire fighters - he was yelling about being 'caught.' The only way to get him out was to pry/pull-back the now sharp piece of the plastic under-dash that was preventing us from pulling him up and out.

    One of my other EMS co-workers, with undiagnosed sleep apnea - rolled his car about 150 yards from leaving the base at the end of his shift.

    Between those, and other examples, I'm surprised and thankful your son got out of his accident without much damage.

    ^^^Thanks for your concern. He's lucky, as the road he was driving on is heavily landscaped with trees. He just happened to doze at the very end of the median strip, up on it with 2 wheels for about 25 feet, then back down, INTO the oncoming lanes. At 3 am, no traffic. He's lucky on several counts, and for sure, he's learned his lesson. He's a jazz trumpet player, gigging into the early morning hours, then driving 45-50 minutes home. Fortunately, he doesn't drink.

    I have to say I'm impressed that the FE of the Prius shows actually zero mechanical damage, nor tire/wheel damage. I took the car out, up to 80mph, no vibration, steering issues. The curb he climbed is vertical at the base, but slightly rounded at the top, not as round as quarter round trim, but still, thankfully, rounded at the top. The tire just climbed over it.
