This may be a question already somewhere on here, or may not be the right place. I'll be happy to be corrected on any of this, but I'm low on time and need the discussion asap.

I had to get my ECU replaced in my car about a week ago, and kind've had some issues with the dealership, though I don't feel the details are necessary here. I needed this done since it wasn't accepting new keys. Since I got it back, it was running okay til about two days ago. Since then, I've had trouble starting it up properly. It would turn on, but not in the mode of which it could be set to drive, forward or backwards, or neutral.

I want to get as much information as I can before going into the dealership with this problem tomorrow morning. They said they'll check it out, but I want to be sure I know information in case they try to avoid any mistakes on their part. I fully intend on getting a second opinion if they do, but I'd rather not pay more than what I already have.

check the 12v health, and make sure the brake lights come on when you press the brake and push the go button.

Can you be more specific about that situation? Are you the original owner with all the keys? Or are you a subsequent owner and were trying to add a 2nd or 3rd key? And were did the key you were trying to add come from?

I'm the second owner and had the original keys to it. I lost both keys and had to get a brand new one programmed without the help of another key. I had two locksmiths look at it to try to do it themselves, one also being a mechanic. He had told me that he'll need to change the computer, but would have to go to a salvaged car for it. I went to the dealership and they ran some tests and found that the ECU wasn't working because of some battery issue. They took care of it, and I picked it up about a week ago and then this happens a few days ago. I went to them this morning and they said the basic car battery, under the hood, needs to be replaced. I didn't have them do it, but I will want to get a second opinion still.

I'll try that when I go back to it in the morning. The dealership says it's the regular car battery under the hood.

Good luck finding the battery under the hood.

The 12v auxiliary battery is in the back, under the right side, corner. It's also pretty expensive for such a small thing.

    It's a regular battery, for a Prius. :)
The Prius has an AGM battery. You can find different brands. They are $200-300.
One from Toyota will be an easy change, since it was designed for the car. No adaptions needed.

If the 12V battery if over five years, it could start giving you problems.
If you have a charger you can put a charge on it. No more than 4 amps though.
