It also started in China, so even with the same measures and response, they should be doing better than places that had outbreaks later.
Any infection of the lungs is pneumonia. Doesn't matter whether bacteria or virus are the cause. The term could also cover any inflammation and immune response with the lungs. So this is a pneumonia.

All of China's infections were December-early March. All those people spent weeks sick and eventually got better. We're still in the getting sick phase, it'll be a few weeks before our recovery curve jumps to match the infection curve.

You might have meant "our recovery and death curve" but we have something different. Our states are individually handing this pandemic and not every state has taken similar (or sensible) actions.

I believe the preferred term is "Necrotic-American" but yes, that is what I meant.

Are the other regions even putting any meaningful effort into tracking and counting recoveries? I very seriously doubt it. Many likely view such effort as a waste of limited resources, which should be focused on supporting those still ill, and trying to slow the spread. Thus, i'm seeing little meaning in those skimpy recovery figures.
I thought that they kicked out only three specific U.S. outfits, not the entire Western press.

After their 2016 election coverage, I shed no tears. There is an old term, "fellow travelers", in this case, Putin's puppets.

    perfect word - status quo.
    At what point do we shut down the nation's economy, put people out of work, bankrupt businesses. Cost benefit analysis. To save 20,000 - 30,000 - 40,000 lives per year in the United States ... is it worth it? Ok. But;
By the same rationale, shouldn't the national maximum speed on all roads, rail, highways be 15 mpg?
Isn't that how a similar amount of lives we would save?
    50+ Car Accident Statistics - 2020 | Reasearch & Infographic
Flu like diseases, as all the articles point out, primarily kill a minority that are old / bad shape, as opposed to accidents - that our way more indiscriminate, taking out the healthiest, & the youngest, as well as the permanent injuries, unlike communicable diseases like this, that people generally recover from.
Sure, the rationale for going so overboard with this infectious disease is, " if we don't .... it may wipe too many of us out". Considering the 100000 + that have already recovered, that's obviously not the case. What sickens many is that this seems to possibly be a new norm even as the economy sinks ever lower.

I have to wonder if things like "jet set sales" "commuting" and "open-plan offices" will be left behind; pre-covid constructs of the working world. Many, many more people will continue to work from home than ever before. There will still be need for getting around and travel in general, but we have an incredible opportunity on our hands. This could unlock an enormous semi-permanent reduction in traffic, transportation emissions and the manufacturing supporting it. Once the climate guys get their hands on a few months worth of 2020 data, we could have some really neat stuff to talk about. We've already seen little bits of data from China, we should probably look for Korea & Italy next, then here in North America.

I take data from China govt website each day

The smallest number of new reported cases was 11, happened 10 days ago. That number has increased since, and has been attributed to imported cases.

I can post a graph of daily reported recoveries if that is of interest.

Yes, communist china (always small letters) is an export-import consortium, making much progress exporting the ccp coronavirus. So much progress at the export end, that they are now seeing a good uplift, importing the ccp cornonavirus back home. communist chinese (always small letters) are very modest. They attribute initial efforts of their upstart ccp cornonavirus disease business to the U.S. military...... so very modest....

South Korea also has had a resurgence of new cases attributed to imports.

We'd be lucky with it just resulting in the same numbers of deaths as the seasonal flu, which generally has a much lower mortality rate.

    A recent post I made,
    "US population is 327 million.
According to WHO, COVID 19 has a 1.4% mortality rate.
Without any intervention, 70% of the population can be infected, easily.
That would be 3.2 million dead.
Accounting for the health of the typical American, and the real possibility of the medical infrastructure being overwhelmed, I'd say it would be higher."

The many that do recover may never fully recover, with damage done to their lungs. Some recovered patients have lost 20% to 30% of their lung function. Currently, it is unknown if this will heal in time, or if the patients now have fibrosis of the lungs.

That is by far the lowest non-intervention death toll guestimate I've seen. The rest indicate 6 or 7 digits with no or mild interventions, and significantly harsher than current interventions to keep the toll as low as you suggest.

Your number is for a hard but not really severe modern influenza season. This one is worse than any flu since the 1918 Influenza Pandemic.

Remember that in the epicentric nursing home in Kirkland WA, where the normal death rate is 4 to 7% per month, this virus killed 1/3rd of the residents in just 3 weeks. That isn't like any influenza we have ever seen. Not even the 1918 version (for that age group, though it was worse than covid-19 for children and young adults).

Numerous places in other countries, hospitals are already overwhelmed and needing to choose who gets livesaving treatment, and who does not. And several U.S. locations are already very close to that same condition.

Rather difficult in the US since Facebook and other social media are censoring this sort of news. Guess you have to have a direct contact to someone in China involved in the fight.

In any case, this is over month old news.
