Looking to confirm 12v battery dead, plus question about noise when parked

    Hello,

    So our 2012 Prius V had been slow to start. It'd just sit for a minute before dash lit up. Now there's nothing, no reaction to fob. Assuming 12v battery is dead. I've found a good DIY video to replace it, and the proper battery on Amazon. Any issues? I know the dealer charges a lot.

    Second, the now "dead' car makes a low mechanical noise, like a hum/whir, in front of the driver side when parked. Any clue?

    Searched "noise when off", but didn't find anything similar to what I'm hearing.

    hard to say without testing, but if it's original, go ahead and replace it. oem is around $200.

    on line, if it needs a charge, you will need a charger.

    not sure what the noise is, replace the battery and see what happens

    Does it start when you open the driver's door? On our 2015 v, the brake booster kicks in when I open the door and runs for maybe 10-15 seconds.

    The Prius is never really off, there are a number of tests it does while 'off'

    Tried this. Some lights came on, the door open light, check engine. The car hummed like a humpback whale, as if the whale was shifting gears. That was new. No start though. Thanks!
