Aftermarket AC Compressors Problems?

I've talked to 2 Prius Mechanics both mentioning after market ac compressors causing problems that were resolved after installing Toyota oem ac compressor.

My original oem ac compressor failed on my 2004 Prius after 200K miles and thousands of idle hours with heavy ac use in hot climates.

It was replaced with an after market one which failed a year later and replaced under warranty with another after market ac compressor (mistake) Oreillys Import Direct which failed a month later and replaced under that warranty with another Oreilly's Import Direct AC Compressor which has intermittent failure at times especially over 86 degrees outside. Self Diagnostic code 76.

Want to know if anybody else having problems with aftermarket ac compressors or heard of others having problems. Thanks

 

Yeah several professionals noted history of after market ac compressors failing early or causing problems which went away once they used a Toyota oem ac compressor. Toyota saw it 4 times and replaced the servo door mechanism code 42 or 43 (self-diagnostic) which eventually went away but 76 remains. Found a shop with dedicated equipment for hybrid evac and recharge and experience in Prius AC.

So so far I have my experience of aftermarkets and several Prius mechanic experiences. Just looking for more experiences to add to the equation.

Mine has intermittent loss of AC particularly after 86 degrees outside.

 

Yes I'd be open to used or refurbished oem at this point from a good source.

 

Yes that is very likely noting the first shop who were nice people but obviously in over their heads when replacing Prius ac compressor with countless returns. I could even return as the second AC compressor from the aftermarket is still under warranty through them. I'm going to try to get money back at least for the compressor through Oreillys warranty but they should refund the whole botched job. Won't hold my breath, lesson learned.

 

Thanks for the reply and input. I did read about that and I have had the inverter coolant pump replaced before when I noted no turbulence in the reservoir. I did check yesterday for turbulence in the reservoir and there was quite a bit though. Would that rule out the inverter coolant pump or is there other things to check as well?

How about the engine coolant pump? I did have the Dual fans replaced about the time the Compressor was replaced 8/2019 and one Prius Mechanic told me to make sure they installed correctly. I checked the air flow with toilet paper to save fingers and both fans are blowing toward the engine. Engine Coolant level is good.

 

Also forgot to mention no warning lights have gone off but also know from experience that a condition can exist far before the warning light goes off. For example my brake actuator that was clearly faulty and making that noise that was driving me crazy didn't set off warning light unitl almost a year then it was covered under special toyota extended warranty that required the warning light and codes to replace at no charge.
