Local dealer called me with OTD price. Is it smart or stupid to spend $2250 on our clean old car that is running perfectly?

I would consider this an unwise investment if you’re current battery is not giving you any problems.
Odds are something other than the battery will require your hard earned cash first.

how long would you like to keep it? hard to say, but the extra $500.+ might be saved by using the original battery.
but the average of 8,500 miles a year might be a bad thing, or if you are driving it even less these days

-Keeping it until it dies = 4+ years?
-8500 miles is still the amount we drive, unless we take a extra xcountry trip (Chicago to NYC and/or NC.
-Save $500 by using original battery? Do you mean DIY rather than Toyota installed?

Sounds like they are selling the battery at wholesale cost ($1600) and charging the normal 4 hr to install. Not a bad deal at all if you are due for one.

saving $500. over the regular cost. so if you don't take the deal, and had to replace it later, it would be about $500. more.
i think i would be prone to riding with the original, they are pretty reliable. otoh, when you go to sell it, if it had a4 year old battery, that might be worth something to a buyer.

In my life if I passed on it it would double my chances of the battery failing lol. Personally I think its a good deal.

$2250 is half the value of this 14 year old car. Investing for the next 6-8 years still might make sense assuming this is an excellent car. Example: One owner, full maintenance records, no accidents, always garaged, everything working, no dents scratches etc. The other option would be to use the $2250 plus the value of the car and maybe some more money to upgrade to a newer car.

What do y'all think about spending 650 bucks on the prolong charging system, and just extending the life of his current battery?

I considered this, but I am not convinced reconditioning works. I have seen at least one case where it destroyed a battery. I have seen several cases where the battery needed to be replaced a year or so later. I have seen many reports of several days of a very confused process while the car is fully unusable.
