FYI. Noted differences between the old and new:

    - End caps. Old one looks more robust, extends past the edge and has more surface area for sealing. New one looks less robust, basically flat and has less surface area for sealing.
    - Country manufactured. Old one was made in the USA. New one is made in China.
    - Dimensionally the same except inner diameter. Old one was around 1.107". New one around 1.124". Doesn't sound like much, but, I thought the old one fit a bit tight. New dimensions seem about right.
    - New size packaging. New one is bigger, but, still shows the old end cap design.

    And no price reduction to go along with these new features. mobil1-154C-1.jpg mobil1-154C-2.jpg mobil1-154C-3.jpg mobil1-154C-4.jpg mobil1-154C-5.jpg mobil1-154C-6.jpg mobil1-154C-7.jpg mobil1-154C-8.jpg mobil1-154C-9.jpg

The filters look different but the new one may be better.
The old filter counts to 23 pleats, I counted 19 or 20 on the new filter. Maybe thicker paper.
The new height is slightly smaller, but if the canister seals OK then it would be OK. It is .01 less, not a lot of difference.
There is more filter area, looks like about 10% More the better.
The Box mentions Special Synthetic Fiber Blend Element. It could be a better material.
The outer diameter is about the same, no change there.
The box mentions a Viton Cap O ring for better sealing.

This looks like a better filter to me. But you are right, they are keeping the savings.

The OEM doesnt even have plastic end caps like either of the mobil1 oil filters. Whats the big deal?

To make you all feel bad, look at the difference now. "Mobil 1 M1C-154A Extended Performance Oil Filter" feels and looks cheap, it's lighter, no mesh inside. I don't even think this thing can last 20,000 miles claimed by Mobil. Definitely returning them and staying with Fram XG.

The 1st revision, or second version stayed blue at the ends. The 3rd revision was never ran by us, opened the lid and found the ends to be white. I been using the Mobil 1 blue ends also but not anymore. I have fram synthetic in the wings for the next change with redline oil.

The Blue ends were some kind of plastic but this white one has fiver material. Thanks for confirming :)

I always keep the filters after each oil change and try to rip them apart by hand to no luck. Then grab 2 gator pliers and pull both north and south ends, neither plastic end gives. It’s always the medium tearing with brute force so the glued blue plastic ends are durable enough. These white ends are sketchy.

Wish The fram XG pleats could be more evenly spaced, which was why I went with Mobil in the first place. Which brand of oil so you use with your filters?

The Toyota OEM cartridge has nothing on either end.
