    hi

my 09 prius is troubling me. i was driving and i came to a stop. when it time to move, i pressed the accelerator and i heard a grinding noise coming from left side under hood and car will not move. no power to wheel to move it forward. when i heard the noise, i let off the pedal and it move gradually by itself like 2 to 5 mph till i get it to the side of the road and i turned it off. i let it sit for a bit and i tried to start it again . it started just fine and run fine until i put the car in reverse or drive gear it starts making the grinding/rattling noise.

i towed the car home. next day i went to try to start it . all the light comes on but it will not start or go into ready. i check ecu with code reader and there are no codes

what could it be. any direction to figure this issue please share your inputs. i hand crank or turn the engine and it turn just fine.

there is enough coolant in both reservoir and there is good oil level in engine.

    thank you

Then you don't have a reader capable of seeing Toyota hybrid specific codes.

The prius is a (hybrid) electric vehicle. The health of both batteries is paramount and should be checked/verified first.

    GOOD LUCK!

update. Mechanic shop said, the aux battery is charged and has above 12 volts. the scanner doesn't show any code but it says battery low voltage and battery air. now looking to find a way to charge the big hybrid battery but what could be a cause for the hybrid batter not to charge or drain?

    what do they mean?

first one means someone didn't complete the process of reinstalling the orange safety plug correctly

second one is a low 12v, but could be something else if you're above 12.4 volts

next two look like a bad hybrid battery

finally, p3102 is the park actuator, but might be the low 12v or wiring damage/corrosion. is this a salvage?

Finish installing the orange safety jumper. Then see what codes (if any) you get.

This assumes the codes came from a Prius literate code reader. Most readers will give all kinds of wrong data if they give any at all.

the big battery was never touched since it was replaced. is it possible that the orange pin can come off by itself.

    car is not salvage

not that i have read, but worth a check i suppose. i wonder if you have corrosion or a loose wire/connector

Probably the drive chain failed in the trans. If so the trans will have to be replaced as that’s not a serviceable part. Ever replace the trans fluid?

Then you say the battery was not replaced who replaced it?

Not sounding real good so far, may be new car time.

Trans and engine must be running to. Charge the hybrid battery.

No, C1241 actually doesn't, but a very common mistake. There are also 4 sub-codes that help pinpoint where the fault could lie.

The voltage is what is received at the ECB ECU. Detection conditions that relate to voltage are:
    • BS voltage is less than 8.9 V for at least 3 sec. (brake is not applied).
    • 12 V-power source voltage inside ECU is less than 8.5 V when the main relay is opened or VCM voltage is less than 4.7 V or 5 V or more for at least 0.05 sec.
Checking the freeze frame data may give better clues. The 12 V may become low if, for example, a problem caused the DC/DC to stop, so you need to find that problem first.

What kind of maintenance? They didn't replace the trans fluid did they?

the shop said they got the car to start and go into ready mode. but it can barely move and it has a grinding sound. the transmission and the clutch or flywheel plus transmission is causing the grinding and for it not to move. (what is the name of the part that complete the marriage between the transmission and engine?)

    anyone has it for sale./
