I just bought a $1000 white beat-up 2010 Prius with 298,000 miles. A lot of work to be done to get back on the road. Great 70'F day for 5hrs of car maintenance. From visual inspection seems the last tuneup was last done between 25,000 to 50,000 miles ago. Also this car clearly burns oil, the previous owner didn't know the rate, but it was accelerated, hence why i decided to put in an Oil Catch Can:
Oil Catch Can Install @ 298k miles | PriusChat
    - AIR FILTERS, ENGINE/CABIN. filter swap out was well past its time. Estimated last swapped out >30k miles.
    - PCV. the float was still moving, so pcv was not stuck open/closed. Estimated last swapped was >25k miles
    - FLUIDS CHANGE: OIL, ATF, COOLANT ENGINE/INVERTER. ATF fluid was notably dark. Estimated at ~40-50k miles old.
    - INTAKE VALVE/MANIFOLD, EGR PIPE. very oily and carbon dirty. This prompted me to do a Seafoam cleaning.

Assuming @ASRDogman means EGR cooler, I'd second that. And the EGR passages in intake manifold, at each port.

    That's 1000 more miles than @danlatu 's rebuild IIRC.

    Sad to see such neglect.

Clean up the EGR cooler/valve, and hope for the best.

    Be careful with the ATF.
Your Prius doesn't have a "transaxle" per-se but rather has a "power split" device.
The motor-generators have stator windings that can be damaged by funky additives and (maybe) non-oem fluids.

You're "probably" OK with the Valvoline, and you're going to be fighting much bigger problems pretty soon anyway, but I'd probably put the Yota brand in myself.
    THEY even call it ATF.

    Good Luck with the car!

Does anyone know the purpose of the extra screen attached to the Throttle Body gasket?

Yeah this has come up before. I believe something to do with cold weather operation, the screen breaks up the air flow, or somehow reduces the chance of ice forming in the throttle body??

Just so everyone's not craning their necks, nothing helpful in the description:

I have 2x EGR cooler-valve sets on international order. They are a month late now. This is the last procedure required to get Prius back on the road. I already power drilled the cooler, the EGR valve needs replacement.

No electrical connection. Definitely looks cool as an ornament at first, but i felt the same thing with actual performance in filtering... useless. ; )

What did you pay for the egr cooler?
You should have checked online for them. I found one for $53, free shipping.
It was fairly clean, so I pressure washed it then used oven cleaner a few times
pressure washing in between so it was shinny. It's on the car now.

Is the rattling and the idle back to normal standards with the new EGR-system replacement?
I ordered 2x $78 Ebay-Lithuanian specials (cooler & valve combos); looks like they are held up in the Chicago mail rooms.

That's a great price for "new?" cooler and EGR valve.
You really only need one though. Because you can just clean the one you take off.
Soak it for days in white vinegar or gunk or oven cleaner. The pressure washer would
probably clear it out, unless it's backed to the point of being hard. Then you'll need the
pressure washer before and after the oven cleaner.

I had noticed I wasn't getting the response I had gotten, and some loss of power.
It was earlier than I had planned to do the cooler. But I was having some of the symptoms
most others said before them blew the head gasket. Mine was almost completely clogged.
So I put my replacement one in which saved me a LOT of time.
I pressure washed the original one and it cleared out. Before I do the egr system again I will
    use the oven cleaner.

I notice a huge improvement after clean the egr system including the intake manifold.
It really needed to be done!

I was driving 70+mph on the highway, and a lot faster in the city. I think that's why it clogged so much
in 60,000 miles versus partially clogged at 125,000 the first time.

Your accounting to improved driving post-EGR swap out is encouraging.
I ordered 2x "used" EGR cooler-valve sets; @$78/each, the best deal I found on line yet. They claimed to be cleaned but used from parted-out old damaged Prius. I own 3x 2010 Prius now (blue, grey, white). I know 2x EGR valves (grey, white) need to be replaced. I will keep an eye on that 3rd blue Prius.
