I turned on the air the other day and just got hot air blowing , went to YouTube and found out how to see the fault codes for the A/C , well I got code 23 as a fault code , anybody know what this is ? Thinking about taking it into the dealer as I found out the A/C system is pretty complex

Took my car in to the dealership and they found the AC compressor is internally faulted and recommended to replace the compressor , only thing is they wanted $2100.00 to do the job . Anybody know where to get a used or rebuilt AC compressor for a 2012 Prius?

I found a compressor online brand new, it came with the oil, expansion valve and the condenser filter for $192 shipped, it came from eBay seller Gerad Rondon, 5405 NE 82'nd Ave, Doral FL.33166. I don't know if it's still available I bought this the summer of 2019 I can tell you that the compressor was a very simple job it's right behind the passenger's tire and was very simple to do any area backyard mechanic should be able to do this no problem and shouldn't charge you more than a hundred bucks they should charge you an hour labor and then you take it to a place and get it evac and charged I replaced mine and then as soon as they evacked it and charged it I was getting a solar sensor code got that to go away now here we are in the spring of 2020 and it's getting hot in Florida and all winter I would dig and dig at what this problem could be and you know I would get AC for like 3 seconds and then it would shut off well I took it to place yesterday and they said I had super high pressure and that I might have a bad compressor but I told the guy it's brand new so I removed the freon properly of course and the compressor ran without throwing a code with no pressure now I try to put a little bit of freon back in and a two little squirts of the freon bottle and I was showing high pressure and the can is doesn't even feel like anything came out of it I let it out the high pressure side and the little I put in came out now I'm getting code 23 so that's why I'm on this form and seeing your price for the compressor job I wanted to let anybody that stumbles upon this to know it's available for 200 bucks or less brand new and you shouldn't be charged more than 1 hour labor to put it in It was very simple I can't stress that enough and when I see Toyota once over two grand to replace it that is crazy and I'll tell you another thing with the Prius the battery the 12-volt battery in the trunk I've run my car with a $40 Walmart battery that fit to size in there with no problems and you don't need no special battery no $200 battery go get a cheap Walmart battery I've never had a problem with it had the car 3 years now and the big battery I found a place that came to my house for is like $900 and I want to say it was called Greentree or something like that of their online their nationwide and they warranty it for several years I forget how long but I come out and put it in and boom so good luck with your Priuses and I'm trying to figure out this damn code 23 now and not getting much any pressure in there I mean Freon in there

Is it true what your profile says, you're driving a 2003, Prius first generation? That has a nice inexpensive compressor driven by a belt.

You've posted here in the Prius Gen 3 forum. Gen 3 has an electric compressor with inverter electronics inside. No belt. It costs more.

Gen 1 code 23 refers to signals from the pressure switch. Either there is an open in the wiring to the switch somewhere, or the switch is faulty, or the pressure really is below 28 psi or above 455 psi.

I appreciate you reply I didn't know I was in a gen 3 forum but yeah it's a '02 generation 1 I put a brand new compressor in and it would blow cold for 3 seconds and trip off well called 3 seconds trip off I took it to a place a Toyota place he put gauges on it and I had extremely high pressure so removed the freon tried replacing the freon and you put barely any in and it reads high pressure in the AC don't come on and I get a code 23 I don't know appreciate your time

We should probably keep this going in the Gen 1 forum ... I would suggest just starting a new thread there with the specifics of your situation.
