Alright, this is an update to my last post about my favorite thing this Prius has to offer: absolutely blinding glare from the dashboard.

I've brainstormed many ideas and weighed out options between what is easy, practical, best looking, least damaging or permanent, effective, etc...

For now, I have this. I got 2 because 1 wasn't enough to fix the lower half of the glare. However, the top part remains as well as the chrome tips of the vent adjustment (which I might just paint in plastidip by hand or something)

I was debating making my own shade that goes over the top, high enough to protect the whole dash but that proved to be very difficult to get right. Attaching it was probably the hardest part.

Anyway, for the top edge I think I'll wrap it in something very matte and glare resistant. I imagine a nicely carved or cut strip of vinyl could actually look nice as an accent to the dash. I hope this is easy enough...

Well, that's my update for now. I'm pretty happy with how it looks.

Second pic is to show the glare that remains which is usually the worst of them all.

Adding third picture to show a before version, revealing all the terrible glare points that these shades do a lot for. Those chrome sliders knobs and what not were nasty with the glare too. Those had to be fixed. Also where the screen ends and the dash begins, that edge has a way of finding the sun to point into your eyes.

Kinda upset with Toyota on this but it's all good. It's aaalllll good...

I look forward to seeing more of your update on your glare killer project!

Blinding glare, I have seen in my car which is very similar to Gen4 interior, but it only happens when the sun is in low angle and I am driving in a certain direction at just right timing. It does not happen often enough to be as concerned as you are. That being said I would love to get rid of that dust magnet piano black. Oh, but I also hate the toilet porcelain white. I am glad now I have all black interior including the shift cover and steering wheel cover. But still, if it can be covered with something like matte black wrap easily I would like to try.

Another thread I guess. Sorry. Crazy glare I'm going to fix | PriusChat

It just might. You mean that center console area?

Yeah, that for sure. But I want to wrap all of the piano blacks including the door switch panel, center console tray, shift cover, steering wheel cover.

Nice! I've done those actually. Carbon on door switch panel and brushed metal on shifter panel.

My console is already black and I'll see what I can do about the steering wheel buttons.

Yeah, I remember seeing those works on other threads. I think you said the door switch plate was done professionally. How about the shift cover? I really like the brushed metal finish. I prefer that over carbon fiber finish.

Same guy did it. I'm getting a different carbon in a week. Slight Install issue. You should be able to find a guy that'll do all that for like less than $100 maybe even around sixty bucks

If the missus will let you get away with it, do some touch up painting to make it look like the real McCoy? Be the first on the block? Nah, that'll never fly.

There are certain details she pays attention to;).

The garage door is one of them cause she sees it several times a day:cool:.

Why don't you try something like this and see what Mrs. Mendel says:love:.

Maybe she'll come around like she did for the PIP rims(y).

We've come to an understanding, they're allowed on the next set of snow tires. Whenever that will be. I might make it this fall, with them being a solid 10 years old. I just wish they didn't look so good: absolutely no cracking, lots of tread. :(

I'm a complete disruptive influence in this thread, as usual.

Yes, we've lost sight of whatever this thread was supposed to be about. It's ok though. Might paint some stuff tonight.

Alrighty, fellas. Well, here's some plastidip painted onto the chrome tips of the vent adjustment. Did the emblem on the steering wheel too since that likes to get glare on my eyes when the dash isn't.

Do I love how it looks? Not really but I'm not hating it. This is mostly functional but from the distance I'm sitting at, I don't mind it at all and it's much better than the glare. Should just peel off if I need it to. Kinda has this brushed rubber look to it, if you accidentally lit the rubber on fire for a couple seconds.

Plastidip isn't the best to paint on. It starts coagulating pretty quick and lumps up after a few seconds of brushing. I'm sure I could have had a factory looking job if I could remove these parts but that isn't reasonably possible. Definitely not spraying in my car, either.

Next and maybe last is the top edge of the dash and the inner most part of the hood, since the edge between the top and bottom of the hood are just high enough to get in my eyes. Not sure what I'll do there. Perhaps a matte clear-bra or carbon or something. Just like half an inch strip that covers the edge. Whatever is subtle and effective.

Perhaps then, I will be satisfied. At a quick glance, you'd never notice.

I like that brushed metal look. Much better than the white or aftermarket gloss black trims. What did you use for a visor over the display?
