    Hi Everyone!

Recently, I started to have an issue with my 2009 Gen2 Prius. So I had this Prius for almost 2 years everything was fine and couple days ago when ignition is turned on, engine started to make very loud noise followed with gasoline like smell when windows rolled down. I'm not really experienced with cars but I replaced spark plug myself at 110k and car is sitting at 125k miles so far. Do you guys have any solution for this issue? I'm thinking it might be ignition coil or fuel injector.

    Thank you so much!

    Welcome to PriusChat!!

Would you happen to have any OBD2 codes (DTCs) that you can share here with us?

First take a look underneath the vehicle and make sure someone hasn't stolen part of your exhaust system, or catalytic converter.

Did you purchase those spark plugs locally, as counterfeits have been sold online. Most only last about 10k miles before melting.

Once you know which cylinder is misfiring, swap the coils around and see if the misfire follows or not.

Doubtful the coils or injectors are an issue, assuming the mileage is accurate. Has it been raining lately?

No security footage or dash camera. I do have comprehensive insurance coverage but deductible is $1000. Car shop around here quoted fix to be $1300 with cat shield installation. I'm gonna hold off until I find something better I guess. I told them I'm looking to install cheap aftermarket instead of OEM and they quoted $750 alone for Catalytic converter. Seems like marking up from $200 to $750. Does anyone know how much insurance rate will up on average if I submit this claim for OEM fix? (probably around $2000).

Btw, shop told me that 4 cars arrived with same issue this week alone. So I'm assuming they worked real hard during protest.

Why do you assume it was a protester?

I didn't say it was protester. I meant to say that protest may affected police patrolling and thieves started to use this on their side.

Using the protests as cover to go around stealing cats and who knows what else because all the cops would be at the protest.

Damn seeing a lot of these lately. My cat converter throws codes anyways. I wonder how much they sell for
