i asked my doc because mrs b and i got sick in florida in february. she told me there isn't an antibody test worth taking yet.
and when there is, it won't mean much until they figure out if you're immune, and for how long.

but i would still be curious to know.

And if you find out it was, others will be curious of the results as well:).

I had a dentist appointment today, definitely a different experience than the last time I went;).

Definitely more PPE involved for not only the staff but the patient(y).

My long-time dentist, who is now 67 y.o. has decided to retire. Aside from being at an appropriate age where on would consider retiring, his decision was driven by the now necessary requirements to deal with Covid-19. Largely, his practice cannot currently provide suitable ventilation, and would require substantial renovation. Alternatively, he would have to allow increased time between patient treatments - I believe 2+ hours per room, which would make continuing his business unfeasible.

So now I need to find someone new (sigh).

Our dentist is no spring chicken himself. He's got grand kids and is probably just north of 60:whistle:.

I didn't look at what they had to do to meet air changes per time measurement, but each room had a fan, I had to wear gloves and a face mask until the work was to begin;).

Forehead scan on entrance and a 10 question or so questionnaire to determine if I could go back or not:cool:.

The Hygenist was in a N-95 mask, face shield and plastic-like disposable body protection in addition to the standard nitrile gloves that were worn before:).

Gargle with some dilute hydrogen peroxide solution and I was good to go(y).

Did you have to wear a clear face mask with holes in it for the tools?

See post #2145 for the details;).

No clear mask or holes for tools, as I wasn't wearing a mask at that time:).

I guess I'll know if something went awry in less than 14 days(y).

I read an article where the reporter discussed the accuracy of the more established tests compared to low-cost tests (which may not be not so accurate).

His example of the more established test is Quest Diagnostics.
Here's a page where they discuss the specificity and sensitivity of their antibody test. Their test costs $119 (at least at this moment).

This company seems to offer many different types of medical tests. (I'm not necessarily recommending them--just giving some information that I read in case it is useful).

Added: I checked my browsing history and found the article I mentioned:
Buyer beware? What to know about direct-to-consumer antibody tests - ABC News

Brush and floss regularly and hope for the best then;).

Otherwise you'll have to take a chance (y).

Side benefit of not going: you don't get "shamed" by the hygenist or dentist;).

They tried to say I should go to a 4 month check up due to increased inflammation:cool:.

I said that this is the first I've been told of this and probably has something to do with wearing a mask and breathing more through my mouth:whistle:.

Anything to get a buck now that they are back:rolleyes:.

i think i have a cracked tooth and some gingivitis. the extra floosing and mouthwas have really calmed it down.
meanwhile, i'm saving for future dental work like a hybrid battery

    Start saving early and often;).

A cracked tooth sounds more than what mouthwash can solve:whistle:.

But maybe the thought of venturing out to the dentist has your mind set that it ain't so bad:).

The longer you wait, the better job to repair you can fund(y).

at 65, with underlying health issues, i'm more concerned about the virus than the tooth. i own a pair of pliers, and learned a lot about dentistry from the three stooges

Not going to try the door and string trick to yank it out:whistle:?

But I can appreciate the reason why you wouldn't go out u less you absolutely have to;).

The case counts keep going up and more things keep opening up:eek:.

    More reason to stay in(y).

Two weeks ago, I had 'something different' with a tooth that in January had gone through an infection treatment(*). During the pandemic, the tooth had gotten 'different' but no discomfort even while eating.

The cleaning visit and checking the x-rays, they saw a shadow and prescribed an antibiotic that I finished up Sunday. No change in the tooth. We’ll see.

The second wave is evident in many Southern and Central States. Now we have some testing and supplies but some States have declared public health data a ‘State Secret’.

some states have reached max surge capacity for the first time. even without things opening up, anti vaxxers are going to cause trouble and more spread in some areas
