Just got an OBDII connector, and installed Dr.Prius and Torque Pro. How do I even? Help, Please.

Is there someone that can help walk a semi-retarded Hillbilly through using Torque Pro?

I'd like to monitor the batteries.
I'd like to monitor fuel a bit more than the current gauge allows.
I would love to have a little more control over the fan speed for the batteries.
I'd like to monitor my catalytic converter.
And I'd like to monitor mileage between oil changes.

I'd also LOVE to stop the darn car from deleting my MPG averages every time I get fuel.

What PID files do I need?
What's the best way to get them to my phone if I don't have an SD slot?
Can I change settings on the car with it?
I was excited when I saw I could shut off a few things with Dr. Prius, then tried it and it said it wasn't an option with OBDII.. WTH?

The "Custom PIDS for Torque" thread is awesome, but it's WAY over my head. There are 40 some pages of stuff I don't understand.

Pretend you are explaining it to an 8 year old. ;) Hold my hand and help me get this right.

Let me see if this is possible :
    • What type of phone do you have?
    • Have you ever plugged your phone into the computer before?
    • What brand/model of OBD2 adapter do you have?

    • Android, more specifically a Google Pixel3
    • Yes, but only to charge it. I think I should be able to access files on it.
    • I got the Panlong connector since it was recommended on Dr.Prius' page.

There is an existing thread on this issue. Look under Gen2 technical discussions entitled: "Gen2 Prius: Custom PIDs for Torque (Android App) with formulas". Pretty good at getting you started.

If that does NOT work then instant message ne.

I think ydpplqbd makes some interesting points.

I followed your advice and ignored your signature. The only page I found that was useful while ignoring it was changing the speed to 6 on the battery fan. Very well written, and easy to follow.
I think I got it set up correctly (it was the type of explanation I was looking for.)

You have a 2007 so it should not be auto resetting the MPG average – the 2004-2005 did do this though. All Gen 2 will reset the Miles counter as you move off from a fill-up of 3 gals or more, though. As far as I am aware, these are not customizable.

Mine resets the mileage counter and the MPG. It's irritating, but since 99.9% of this car runs highway miles at 75 and above, it's not counting great numbers anyway. I think it's averaging around 38 IRL. I know if I dropped my speed 10 mph, it would raise considerably, but I've got places to go, and my time is more valuable than any mpg losses.
