I have a feeling 2021 will be a carry over model from 2020. That is if Toyota makes any new year model of PRIME with current production situation in Japan under COVID-19 restrictions.

Because it has the common MFD used in other Toyota models. The XLE/Limited use a bespoke 11.6" MFD. It's a double-edged sword.

What are the big improvements in TSS-P 2.0? Full range DRCC means even to a full stop?

Pretty upset that 2021 gets the remote apps. Any way to upgrade 2020 models to get remote apps?

Probably not. My son just got a Tesla Model 3. As you know Teslas can be improved with over the air updates. No need to wait for the next model year.

    TSS-P 2.0 adds

    • Low light pedestrian detection
    • Daytime bicyclist detection
    • Road Sign Assist
    • Lane Trace Assist
    TSS-P 2.5+ adds
    • Intersection Support for oncoming vehicles and pedestrians
    • Emergency Steering Assist
    • Ability to adjust DRCC to the speed limit as it changes

    TSS-C+ adds (MY2019 and newer)
    • Pedestrian Detection

Full Range DRCC means it can bring the vehicle to a stop when DRCC is in use. Partial DRCC (or just DRCC) cuts off below 25mph/40km/h

Lane Trace Assist means the system uses the vehicle in front to trace a path so that LDA w/SA can be used even if the lane lines are faded or cannot be picked up by the system.

My prediction for the next gen Prius/Prime will be that it will switch its vertical screen for a horizontal one - The 12.3" screen is used in more and more Toyota models (Highlander Platinum, HiHy Platinum, Venza Limited) as well as Lexus models. This allows us to get the improvements or updates as other Toyota models.

It is odd that the apps went away for 2020 then they are coming back... any idea if the telematics hardware was still in the vehicle and it was just disabled by software? I.e. potential it could be enabled via software update?

It does seem odd how 2019 was a short year; I believe it was initially a late release (Jan 2019 IIRC?), then the 2020 model was released 6 months later in summer 2020. And now 2021 is coming at the end of the year to get back on cycle.

Looks to me like they wanted the 2020 features in the 19 model but couldn’t make it in time after waiting as long as possible, so did an early release Of the next year, and maybe didn’t have time to work out some kinks between CarPlay and their apps?... I do not know, just seems odd for the apps to go away for one year and then come back, hopefully they can ‘make that right’ for the ‘20 owners...

The Canadian spec models are even more messed up. As far as I know, we don't have Remote A/C via smartphone since we don't have Entune on the Primes. We have to use the fob.

Also, the base model gets Safety Connect and Connected Services because it uses the same 7" MFD as other Toyota vehicles. Once again, the bespoke 11.6" MFD doesn't get any updates so no Entune and no "Connected Services by Toyota" features. This also means no HD Traffic or Predictive Efficient Drive or Charging Station POIs.

2019 came out around Feb 2019 and the 2020 came out in May 2020. I suspect they wanted the 5-seater to coincide with the release of the federal incentives to maximise sales. It seems to have worked as I'm seeing more 2020s than I have 2018/2019s (distinguished by the wheel cover).

Yeah, Canada always seems to get the short end of the stick.... however, have you seen a similar official release from Toyota Canada? Is it possible that may still change for ‘21? I don’t see anything on Toyota.ca...

Sweet looking forward to finally getting AA going forward. Will probably pick up another one of these in a few months, was waiting to see what the 2021 model has going forward.

I would have much preferred having the 4 seats with the center console in the back instead of the useless middle seat. I could use that extra storage
