Hybrid battery fail

Better chance would be to disconnect 12 volt neg cable for a few seconds, as far as memory reset. Still, not sure that it would help. Maybe.

It might be you WERE running out of gas, and the Prius c allows the car to make extra use of hybrid battery in that circumstance, run it dangerously low? Just a nasty thought.

I've read about that happening with 2nd gen, fwiw.

 

The computers that manage the hybrid system (and manage the stored diagnostic codes) are run from the 12v electric system, not the high voltage one.

So theoretically you could reset the 12v system to blank out the error codes and ask the car to behave normally again. It has worked before. I don't usually recommend trying this without first getting a real diagnosis from somebody who actually knows hybrids. If you're going to game it, it's good to know which game.

Probably the cheapest way out is to buy a used genuine battery parted out of a wreck.

Get the youngest one you can find- these batteries are more sensitive to age than mileage.

My suggestion is to get an OBDII bluetooth adapter and then run an app such as Dr. Prius that can give info about your battery. If just one cell is bad, maybe you can replace that one. People on the forum (myself included) have criticized playing "whack a mole" by replacing individual cells, but your battery is not super old, so replacing one might keep you going for quite a while.

Have you been using your C very little during the Covid crisis? Using a Toyota hybrid regularly helps keep it healthy. I take my old Prius out for "exercise" a couple of times per week.

 

When you ran out of gas you then used the hybrid battery to get you where you needed to go and that flogged the battery pretty hard. You ran it really low on its charge level. It may have gotten so pissed at you it threw a death code for the battery. Hopefully you can clear it.

Don't ever run out of gas in a Prius it can be really expensive.

The quickest way to kill a Prius is to stop driving it. Its hard on the hybrid battery and the 12 volt battery also for the car to just sit there. I make my wife take out her G2 and drive it everyday.

G2 Hybrid battery's on this site are dropping left and right because the car just sits there.

 

I wouldn't bother pulling the orange safety plug that wont reset anything but pulling the 12 volts will.
