Ran outside of my EV only range this past week so did the return trip in hybrid mode. It's a mix of 10% city-type speeds (40-60km/h) and 90% highway speeds (80 to 110km/h). I forgot to take a photo of the trip meter menu but I believe the EV ratio was around 39% or was it 29%?

I did screen capture the Consumption Screen, however. 3.2L/100km is 73.5mpg.

So if there's a reason to take the Prime over the regular Prius, aside from EV range, this is it. Even in hybrid mode, the Prime is more efficient. (and technically the Prime is less aerodynamic than the regular Prius too)

My 2010's dancing around 4.4~4.5 (liters/100km) displayed.

    (52 mpg US roughly.)

Similar here except in the summer I'm running the air conditioner kind of hard, so I get more like 65-70 mpg.

I have a friend with a Tesla who got his daughter a Volt. He asked if my hybrid economy was around 35-40 mpg. I guess that's what she gets in the Volt. When I told him what I get in the Prime, his jaw nearly hit the ground.

And the Prime rides so much nicer with the extra weight.;)

I think there is still future in hybrids. EV prices are still too high for many people and don't seem to come down either. Hyundai actually increased their prices this year. We will see what Volkswagen's prices will be for the I3 and i4. In the meanwhile hybrids by the millions on the road reduce CO2 emissions for years now.

Having a 100km Prime, and other PHEVs, priced below pure EVs would be ideal.

That’s pretty good. My Gen 3 did around 4.1-4.2L/100km in the summer in the city. Highway dropped it to 4.5 or 4.7 so the Prime really shines through, city or highway.

I attribute this to the latest HSD. I believe it applies to any hybrids on the latest HSD. Zack Spencer tested the 2019 RAV4 Hybrid and got 4.1 or 4.2L/100km over 200km which includes highway driving (to Langley I assume).

Yup. Those 15” wheels are squishy haha. I might try the 205/55R15 that @Rob43 suggested with the Yokohama tyres but that’s assuming I need a new set before I trade the car in.

    *ID.3 and ID.4. i3 and i4 are BMW electrics.

I agree. The one thing EVangelists forget is that not everyone lives like them - single detached house with a garage and available 240V outlet. Some live in condos or apartments or townhouses without outlets or with difficult stratas or even in single or semi-detached with expensive options for running a 240V outlet to the parking area. For the latter, a PHEV works since they can still take advantage of 120V outlets and still drive in EV most of the time.

I’m lucky that my strata has a 3-phase 208V outlet (IIRC it’s a 6-50R) so I’m underutilizing the plug. I can definitely upgrade to an EV but I’d like one that can charge at 7.2kW or 11kW to take advantage of home charging.

One of the neighbouring cities has a bylaw requiring 100% of parking spaces in new developments (single, semi-detach, townhouse or condo) to be wired and have an actual L2 outlet installed. For strata lots, developers can use load sharing to reduce costs of having to wire a larger amount of current into the building as long as it guarantees 8kWh per stall over 8 hours.

You must have read the number wrong. EV ratio 39% (or 29%) is too low even in HV mode. If your EV ratio is this low, there is no way you can get above 70mpg. My usual pure HV drive is ~60% EV ratio and still won't make to above 70mpg.

Not sure. I’m pretty sure the engine was on during the 110km/h stretch (68mph). You can see that 2nd bar was close to 50mpg. The 3rd bar is maybe 52? 55? mpg. The rest is at lower speeds.

I keep forgetting to take a picture of the Drive Monitor (old habit from the last two Prius generation- take a pic of the consumption screen).

After checking my own record, I now see that you might have correctly observed the EV ratio on your drive. I thought it was always higher but for mostly highway speed drive, the EV ratio can be very low.

Here is one example I did on my 2017 PRIME. All HV mode on mostly interstate drive. EV ratio was only 28% with average speed of 55mph.
    Capture.PNG

Compere to above, this is the number I got on one tank full of HV only drive, but mostly in town commute. EV ratio was 59% with average speed 28mph.

We had to run some errands today and had to use HV:(.

I ended up at 65 mpg in HV mode:).

Not bad when you have to use gas(y).

My 38 mile one way commute makes sure I fill up somewhat regularly:cool:.

But now that I work from home about 75% of the time, that tank lasts ALOT longer:).

About 2 months since I last bought and still over half a tank;).

One of the side benefits of doing your part to stop the spread(y).

Max. Cold setting is 51 psi. .The ride feels good at that! I rotate ever 5000 kilometers ft. to back not x method. I run the Nokian tires full time ,winter and summer otherwise I probably stayed with the 422 that I purchased the car with. I think they were a excellent tire?

The Bridgestone 422 that came with the Prime I ran at 48 lbs. as well! They felt excellent with that pressure and gave excellent fe!

I do go down in pressure on poor roads when traveling! I have not had to do that with the prime so far! It is a excellent riding auto! Also never speed!

Whoops, that should be 38/37 for me. The Prime only has a 1 psi difference.
