2009 Prius - unable to start car with smart key

    My 2009 Prius boost battery became dead and hence recharged. However since that I have been unable to use the smart key to
    - to start the engine;
    - to enter the vehicle by touching the door handle.

    I can open the door by pressing the open button on the fob, though.

    I’m new to the forum and any suggestions will be appreciated.

    When you say "boost" battery, are you referring to 12v battery?

    Check to make sure everything was reassembled properly after recharge... Also disconnecting 12v for a few minutes is like a hard reset / rebooting computer so try that too.

    It’s the 12v.
    The problem is now resolved by pushing the “key” button under the wheel

    The problem is now resolved by pushing the “key” button under the wheel. Thanks a million for the suggestion !

    I have some bad news. Your boost battery will soon lose its boost again and leave you stranded.

    Because they dont make battery's like they used to. That battery was probably killed by leaving a light on in the car which is a perfect slow deep discharge guaranteed to create some heat & sulphation in the battery. It will never hold a good charge again. It was perfectly killed.

    And lastly and this is the most important thing do whatever you can to never ever jump start a Prius. Odds are real good for a deep discharge on your wallet. if you know how to use a voltmeter I can prove it to you.

    And its the 12 volt aux battery.

    So what's the verdict? Can I use a non working SKS fob to program a NEW SKS fob? By non-working, I mean it will not lock or unlock the doors or start remotely. It will start the car while inserted it into the proverbial slot, however. I think it got wet... once or twice. 12V battery is newish. 2005 vintage .... the button below the steering wheel is in the out position... Anyone have the skinny on this or is this the terrain of a locksmith?
