I was confused by an earlier part of the thread.

You only jack up via front and rear points and must use stands on the outer 4 areas correct?

At our meet ups, we rarely use stands because raytheeagle has custom wooden stands that lifts the car higher and steadier than stands. I mean I even push the wrench with my foot to turn the oil filter and not worry if the car will tip over to the side and fall on me. You can diy the wooden stands, save a lot of money and git r done safely.

With the proper adapter, I've used the Rennstand to jack up both the rear tires. rear of car supported on Rennstand.JPG

If they can support a house, why not a Prius(y).

YES!!! Those are the best! I moved into a house now with an attached garage, I want to build those exact stands so I can put all 4 tires on it and work under the car safely.

So I just bought a 2 ton jack that goes up to 14 inches. How high is the jack point on a 2014 prius?

I was thinking to go out to the garage with a measuring tape, then thought: why doesn't he, lol.

Ballpark: front's maybe 5", and about 10" for the rear?

Because we Americans have netflix to watch, we wouldn't want to cut our netflix binge to make some measurements.

It should be fine. I don't have a regular Prius, but a v. My 1.5 ton Harbor Freight lifts both the front and rear so that both tires are off the pavement just fine. rear jacked up.JPG

rear gen 3 Prius jacking.JPG front both wheels off ground.JPG If you, however want to use jack stands, you want to get the lowest ones available. I've found that many 3 ton ones available in different brands are too high even at their lowest height when both tires are off the ground. That's why I developed the jacking riser. I bought the $10 Walmart Hyper Tough stand and will be testing them in a few days. We are also developing a "knife edge" perfect fit jacking adapter for most flat top and shallow dip saddle jack stands. The prototypes are looking good.

You need a jacking riser like this one to get the side rails high enough to get the stands under the pinch welds.

Ok, so I’ve seen a couple people here who’ve added adapters to their car jack and jack stands. Is that so it’s a better fit?

In the photo below is my new jack. Seems like an odd shape and surface. That really can connect with the jack point without causing damage?

What is the maximum diameter of the flat part of the saddle?

A flat top riser jacking adapter would be useful.

    I suppose about 2 inches?

Why is it shaped so oddly, seems weird to me

It's shaped that, because the four raised parts of the cut is to "bite: into the chassis to keep it from slipping off flat surfaces. It should work just fine for the front jacking point of the Gen 3 Prius. In order to get the rails of the pinch welds, you'd need a riser for the rear jacking point with a flat plate. You'd have to see how the cup fits the rear jacking point which is a little larger than two inches square.

    Yep! That’s the one.

Why is the rear jacking point different? Less stable?

On the Gen 3 Prius, the bottom of the jacking point is larger than the saddle of the jack. You either have to make a flat plate adapter or use a piece of plywood. The flat plate adapter with a correct size ring to fit inside the saddle would be much more stable. We are looking into making one.

For some reason, the rear jacking point is NOT centers. The spare tire well is in the way.
I just jack it from the axel. Easier to reach too.
