Can all four ignition coils be removed without removing wiper assembly?

Removing the plastic head cover exposes the ignition coils but I only get 2-3 inches clearance - is this why most DIY instruction starts with removing the wiper assembly?

in gen 3 cars, you would need to remove the wiper cowl assembly

Given the OP's locale is Irvine, I'm not sure they would have a right hand drive Prius ;).

But it could be possible .

Yeah and talk about oversight by Toyota: right side drive cars (Britain for example) yup, left side (North American etc) nope.

It's our fancy double-jointed windshield wiper that gets in the way.

For some reason, the rain that falls in RHD countries does not require double-jointed wiping.

If I'm not mistaken, even LHD rain no longer requires double-jointed wiping, if it falls on a Gen 4.

I believe in removing more than just the wiper tray. Hoods can be replaced easily too....

Odd, I was able to change my spark plugs without doing that.

    But it wasn't raining.

Well, that would make it easy to remove the coils. Was this a government job? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

There's a big benefit to removing the cowl you get to clean out the windshield water dam and flush out its 2 vents. If the car lives outside its got alot of leaf debris in there.

Stick the garden hose in its vents and flush it out. Its probably just like the G2 vents out behind the front wheels.

With the coil packs out you can look into the spark plug well and see if there's any oil in there very common for the valve gasket to leak there.
A cheapo borsecope works good for that. here's a bs pic of my leaky vc gasket on my 07.

You can see its just started to leak into the well and was not high enough to touch the bottom of the igniter. The plugs sides were not oily either. If i didn't look first I would have missed it I bet and would have eventually gotten a missfire when it filled it up more..

If i was going to go through all this trouble i would replace the spark plugs too.

Two of us replaced a motor. It was way more than the 8 hour job ppl here claim it to be. How the he11 does anybody do it that fast? And correctly? They're just not counting their diagnostic time, setup, clean up, engine sourcing/ordering, receiving, fluids purchasing, new water pump install, antifreeze fill, burping the hoses, filter change, goon stripped the header pipe bolt, oil fill, cleanup, put car on ground, hood and wiper tray removal/install and clearing codes plus test drive. Otherwise sure, 20.5h is feasable give or take

I let my auto body guy help out putting a cat in one of the other Priuses and and reattaching the header pipe on this one. Guess I overestimated his competencies
