Just picked up my "new" 2015 Prius Four from CarMax yesterday. On the 45 minute drive home, I heard what sounded like metal tools being dropped. It happened twice and sounded like it came from the back of the car. There was no change in engine performance, and no lights popped up on the dashboard. I opened the hatchback when I got home but didn't see anything amiss. I am going to a Toyota dealership in 3 days to have a recall fixed ("the vehicle may not enter a failsafe driving mode as intended/update the software for the hybrid system") and am not driving it again until that time. However, it's another 45 min. trip and I don't know if I should be worried about the mystery metal sound before I hit the road again. Should I ask a local shop to put it up on their lift & take a look to see if they spot anything bad before I got the highway again? Thanks.
Before you do anything else, find the trunk and look for anything loose inside. Likewise, check the side battery compartment for anything that can move; maybe even check under the front seat. Car noises have a way of seeming to come from any other location than the actual source.
Dawn Marie - Yes, CarMax has a 90 day warranty. I'll stop by there after the Recall fix. Good advice. I'll look more thoroughly and see if I spot anything.
Carmax has 5 day or 7 day return no questions ask full refund policy, the return days depending on the state you live in. In CA, it’s 5 days.
