This rear panel rusted through and snapped off (it's been dicey since I bought the car in 2012). I tried using a special epoxy clay to fix it, and it held for a good two months but snapped back off today. The dealer wants to charge an *#$%*@ $400 for the part PLUS LABOR. What is this panel actually called, and can it be bought for any less than that insane amount?

I do not know ...... they use a lot of road salt in Pennsylvania.

All four of our Gen 2 had plastic garnishes. But I guess the screws could rust.

As mentioned -- junkyard. There are also unpainted ones available online. I think I saw them on Ebay a while back.

I guess nobody clicked on my link. you used to only be able to get them in black cheap. Now they are available painted cheap.

No reason to go mess around with a junkyard and get some old plastic that's just going to break again.

If you look up the color code for your car and do a search for "Prius rear garnish" with that code you will find them online

I clicked but thought salvage might save $50. Depends on the market and availability. Based on the pic it looks like the plastic tabs broke off. Might get a better switch as well which I had go gooey on me back in the day. The dealer might have been including that. I seem to recall the correct removal /install requires removing the inside panel.

Thanks everyone for the response. Now that I know what the part is called, I can do some looking around on eBay for one. Yes, it was the screws that rusted through. But two of the side pieces of plastic snapped also. As far as the dealer including a new switch… If you’re referring to the lift mechanism to unlock and open the trunk, nope, that was already replaced last year for $250.
