A post-Sturgis study is out, though it seems that the analysis is of a type that will not convince many skeptics.

Sturgis Motorcyle Rally linked to more than 265,000 cases of COVID-19 costing $12 billion: report

"By Nancy Dillon New York Daily News

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally might be rolling into the record books as the largest known coronavirus super-spreader event in the U.S. to date.

A new study that analyzed cellphone pings for rally attendees and the COVID-19 case numbers in the communities they returned to estimates that more than 265,000 infections confirmed between Aug. 2 and Sept. 2 trace back to the massive gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts in South Dakota.

“We found that for counties that had a lot of people going to Sturgis, after the rally, their case numbers starting taking off relative to similar places that did not have a lot of people going to Sturgis,” Andrew Friedson, an economics professor at the University of Colorado Denver and one of the study’s authors, told the New York Daily News Tuesday. ..."

Ummmm........ Seems you don't understand just what the Covid test is looking for or you wouldn't have posted something like this, maybe try actually looking for real information so you know when someone is pushing "fake news" onto you.

 24,000 a day and still part of the first wave? Ouch, the experiences over this side have seen far higher numbers in the second wave than were seen in the first wave. Seems this second wave has struck at the younger age group first and they have unknowingly passed it on to the elderly in nursing homes when visiting the grand parents, it goes berserk once it gets into these facilities.
We have had a few cases where people who knew they were infected still tried to cross borders into states that had strict border lock downs to minimise the spread. The risk of such stupidity becoming a case of culpable negligence causing death with the lengthy jail time attached doesn't seem to register with these people. A bit of short term pain in lock down for a long term gain seems too much for them, how will they handle the time locked up?

we already went through that. if the long term care homes aren't protected by now, shame on them.

young people have been out all summer without too many repercussions. we'll see what happens when they are inside in the north this winter.

This is a strong argument for the young to get flu vaccines.

Got the senior flu shot yesterday. Widely available in Costco and Walmart in NC. Given the forecast spike in CV-19 in the fall, I figure best to only have one thing to fight.

COVID vaccines have been rolled out in Russia and China ahead of Phase 3 clearance . At least one Phase 3 trial is on hold elsewhere. Finally, more than 10 may go big. It is a unique situation of global deployment.

Year 2020 seems mostly settled. How vaccines shape 2021, especially in high-incidence countries, is a book not yet written.

Without detracting from 2020 influenza vaccination efforts, I suggest that this US flu season will be light. Borrowing from @fuzzy1 post 2726 above, more people are seeing to hygiene this year.

Viruses hate what you're doing, so keep doing it :)

I've been making grocery runs once per month, and otherwise pretty much staying put. Drive the car around the block every week or so.

We're all playing odds here, and I figure my monthly outings aren't perfectly safe, but are somewhere in the neighborhood of a thirtieth the risk of going out daily.

Don't need to achieve perfection ... if I do, just means something else nails me.

It is winter in Australia and their flu season is ending. They've had a record low flu season:
After record low flu season in Australia, US hopes for the same - CNN

I'll still get the flu shot. This isn't the time to be needing to go into a hospital if it can be avoided.
