I just replaced my spiral cable because of a horn issue and now I have lights on the dash and error codes. The codes that are coming up are C1203 (ABS Current Engine control system communication circuit malfunction), C1231 (ABS Current malfunction in steering angle sensor), C1336 (ABS Current Zero calibration of yaw rate sensor undone) and C1345 (ABS current Not Learning linear valve offset abnormality). None of these errors were present before I touched the spiral cable. The codes will not clear with my Innova computer. Suggestions?

Did you follow repair manual procedures for replacing the spiral cable assembly?

You probably need to reset the yaw rate and acceleration sensor.

Thanks for the PDF. I will try this. I tried something similar but with pins 4 and 13. Do I need any special tools for this? Can I use my Innova OBD computer?

There seem to be several people recently who must be running into some internet information source with some misinformation about the use of pins 4 and 13. That's for reading codes out. It's not used for the linear solenoid and yaw relearning; as you see in the manual, pin 12 is used for that.

There's nothing particularly "similar" between grounding the right pin, and grounding the wrong pin. One does the thing you want, one won't....

I did this and still have codes C1203 , C1231 and C1345 and they will not go away. I still have the traction control light, parking brake light, abs light and (!) light. What do I have to do to get these off? None of this was on before I replaced my spiral cable?

Since I do not have a VCI scan tool I counted the light blinks and here is what I came out with.

    Traction Control 3145
    ABS 42
    (!) Light 6695

    Any ideas?

The blink codes are two digits each, so you've got 31, 45; 42; 66, 95.

( ... that's assuming you started counting at the right places, so they're not 14, 53; 45; 56, 69. If you look closely, the pauses between codes are a bit longer than the pause between the digits of a code.)

As luck would have it, I've made a bunch of notes on various DTCs from times I've been signed in to techinfo, but I haven't got any notes on those particular codes. (One of the next times I feed techinfo another $15, I really just need to download all the sections with DTC lists, if nothing else.)

But, anyway, that's where the manual is, and that's where you'll find what those codes mean and what to do about them. (If it ends up not being completely clear in the manual, you can post what it says about 'em, and we can put our heads together about it.)

The steering wheel has to rotate and the spiral cable winds around the steering column to allow rotation. All of the signals that are from (to) the lights/switches on the steering wheel communicate through the spiral cable (sometimes called a clock spring cable).

Ok, I have managed to clear all codes and all lights from the dash except for code C1231 (Steering Angle Sensor Circuit) and the traction control light on the dash. I have TIS and cable. This code was not on before. What other test or calibration do I need to perform? I cannot find it in the manual? Thanks

how did you end up clearing your other codes? i had c1231 (steering angle sensor circuit) code after my mechanic replaced my clock spring in 20120 prius v. dash had vsc light come on. ob2 sensor data showed wheel angle sensor live data stuck at 850. turning the steering wheel did not change these values. after jumping pin 3 & 14 in odb2 to reset vsc. c1203 (ecm communication circuit) and c1345 (lenear solenoid valve offset learning undone) came up.

im thinking of getting my mechanic to check out the steering angle sensor see if pins are bent. or installed incorrectly after replacing clockspring.

I've removed several clocksprings from Prii, but never had to perform a swap due to failure. I've just assumed it would be a matter of centering the steering wheel, mark everything, pop the steering wheel off, remove the old clockspring, center the new clockspring and then plugging it all in and putting it back together. Is it more complicated than that?

That's just what I did when I replaced a bad clock spring on a 2005. No problems at all, no lights, no codes, just drive the car. My friend at Tampa Hybrids said to just be sure the wheel is centered before you start and that you don't let the new clock spring get misaligned while installing it. I would expect other generations to work the same way.

Why didn't HE clear the codes after replacing it?
Taking it back would have been the first thing to do. Did it happen when you left his place?
Or did it pop up later?

Gen 3 spiral cable has, I think, a steering angle sensor glommed onto it, sometimes left disconnected after replacement (or sometimes left on the workbench, still in the old spiral cable, but there isn't a specific INF code for that).

Hello guys I have a 2010 prius II and had a spiral cable/clock spring fail (right side steering wheel hand controls were non functional) I got a used oem genuine Toyota replacement part from ebay. All is good. Hand controls on the steering wheel work as they should. But I also now have my steering angle sensor error as you guys describe. Output locked on 850 degrees or something like this I don't recall specifically, as I was being done a favor to use the techstream at my local Toyota dealer. (used to work there) but curious if any one had resolved this or if the system needs to be calibrated. Can't figure out what I may have done wrong.

In case it's relevant the car has had all of the ecu updates done. I don't want to order a new steering angle sensor if there is a solution. The steering angle sensor undoubtedly spun when removing it from the old clock spring and snapping it into the new/used clock spring. Also the new clock spring is allegedly from a 2015 model prius and my prius is 2010.

I replaced the spiral cable due to non-working horn in my 2010 Prius. Everything is working with the exception of now having the C1231 (steering angle sensor fault). I've attempted reset of the code with no luck. I see a couple of other folks (Sidewayzgt and Chris johnson 2007) with similar issues, but I don't see any final solutions posted. Has anyone successfully fixed this issue and if so please provide the details on what you did.
