Yet another tire thread

    Let me preface this by saying I did spend a bit of time this morning searching old posts before opening this can of worms again! I have to get new tires. I would like to get Nokian WR G4s but I'm told they are on back order for 3 months. Yeah....I can't wait that long.

    So I am looking into other all weather options because I am admittedly a procrastinator and by the time I get around to switching tires seasonally, its already too late!

    With a Google search, I see available "snowflake rated" passenger car tires as follows:
    Firestone Weathergrip
    Goodyear WeatherReady
    Toyo Celsius
    Michelin CrossClimate+
    Vredenstein Quatrac

    I'd like opinions on which of these people have used and their recommendations, please. My vehicle is a 2016 Touring Model 4 with the 215/45/17 tires.

    Amazon has 5 vendors offering the Nokian WRg4 195/65R15 H rated tires at about $100 each. They promise delivery in about a week.

    Are you shopping for replacement tires for your original rims, or separate tires on rims, for winter only? I think the latter route is more effective, and cheaper in the long run. Hopefully you can dodge the need for tpms.

    Thanks, Jeff - wrong size. I was hoping to get them on a buy 3 get one for a dollar sale; in the past that price has beaten other discounters...

    Since the price differential is about $50 per tire, getting a set of 15 inch rims becomes reasonable.

    That's my method. Our OEM's are 17" as well, but there's no way I would buy (pricey) 17" low profile snow tires, swap them in for the OEM's on the nice rims, and continue doing that twice yearly.

    Michelin X-Ice 195/65R15 on Corolla steel rims, with plain valves, has served us well, gong on a decade this winter.

    Tire Rack has steel wheels (15s) for about $70 each, but they do not carry Nokian tires. Amazon has steel wheels for less than $60. Order the Nokians separately and have them installed locally.

    I have a 2016 model 4 touring and recently replaced OEMs with Goodyear assurance weather ready. So far I’m very pleased with the tire. They are quiet, good road manners, handle well in the rain. The Toyota dealer and mechanics all agreed it’s good choice.

    Since I’m AWD I’m going with the michelin cross climates this winter. Put the stock dunlop’s back on around April
