Hi! I hope this is the right place to ask this. I have 2016 prius+ and i have come across only one negative thing in these past two years. When I have the lights on "auto" mode and daytime its running on the DRL lights and all tail lights are off. Is it programmable or do i have to search some relays to get the tail lights on also on daytime?

    Thanks..

Just turn on your marker lights. But why?

That is the definition of DRLs -- two front lamps only, no side or tail lights.

I haven't seen that setting on Carista but using the headlight switch on the city light position on mine, turns on the DRL and the rear tail.

Yeah i know how they work... I was just wondering that is it possible to program tail lights to come on ALSO with the DRL lights on front. Here in Finland it is allowed to drive only on DRL but i feel more secure when there is also lights in the tail. And as lazy arse as i am i would like the car do it all for me. "Light switch in auto mode."

If push came to shove you could physically wire the tails to the DRLs.

At least for Gen 4 there is a specific Customizations section in the manual that lists all the settings and whether a dealer visit is needed to change it.

Rear DRL is a new requirement in some countries, e.g. in Canada beginning September, 2021.

Edit: I forgot to mention that some current model year vehicles already have rear DRL but that the feature is turned off.

I truly hope that rear DRL is on its way to Finland too.

A single rear red drivers side position light that illuminates when front fog lights are used has been a requirement in numerous European countries (Germany, notably) for decades.

You can NOT easily do that.
And you really don't WANT to either.

Following drivers are somewhat less likely to notice brake lights coming on in the day time IF the tail lights are already illuminated.
It is designed the way it is for a good reason.

    Reference please ?
Seems like I remember that Canada does not "require" DRLs at all.

And what models exactly are already equipped with that "feature" ??

Why don’t tail lights come on with daytime running lights? - The Globe and Mail

"After three decades, Transport Canada finally saw the light. It was announced early last year that the rules around tail lights would change for new cars starting in 2021, ...
Canada has required front daytime running lights (DRLs) on all vehicles sold since 1989, but it hasn’t required tail lights to come on with them."

The new requirement actually has 3 options. Read for details. This appears geared more towards preventing "phantom cars", driving around at night with DRLs only, no taillights.

That was fixed decades ago by the addition of CHMSL - center high mount stop light, a.k.a. "third brake light".

The problem was no doubt reduced some but that was NOT the initial reason for the 3rd brake light.

A MUCH better solution would be to require automatic lights to go along with the required DRLs.
That tends to solve ALL the perceived problems instead of trading one for another.

Note: That's one of the few things that I HATE about my C.
Automatic high beams but NOT automatic ON headlights.
I have driven more than once at night with only the DRLs on.

That would not be a reason to not accept the benefit.
That is Option #2 in the article I linked above. The Canadian regulators chose to not force everyone into a single solution.

    Sure.
Allowing people to be as stupid as they want is a really important concept.

By imposing a new regulation, they are not allowing people to continue being as stupid as they want. But they are allowing several different solution choices, rather than dictating a single design.

Can't you just leave the lights in the "ON" position rather than the "AUTO" position? In doing so, wouldn't they then come on when the car was put into "READY", and turn off when the car is shut down?

    NO. ON is ON.
They would not turn on and off with the "ignition".
