Can I know is anyone using this aluminum oil filter? It is listed for RAV4 and Tundra and Camry but I am wondering if it will fit our Prius Gen3?

I really dread if one day I will break the plastic oil filter while doing an oil change. This aluminum one should be more lasting.

My original plastic filter housing was seriously chewed up from having been overtightened and then attacked with Vise-Grips to remove it, but after I did my own oil change and tightened the filter housing only to the specified torque, it came off easily the next time, but I have now replaced it by a new plastic one that I hope to keep looking pristine -- at least until I am no longer able to do my own changes and have to surrender it to the not-so-tender care of the power-wrench brigade again.

I have seen pictures of a metal one that does fit the Prius, and it even has a drain plug in the end so it would be possible to change the oil without also changing the filter, for whatever benefit that has.

Edit: i mean that one would be able to drain the oil that would otherwise be trapped in the oil-filter assembly.

The one for my '14 Scion iQ is 15620-40030 but I have no idea if it will fit either...

It is vertically, or almost vertically oriented so you drain the cap first to decrease the chance of making a mess...

I haven't found any metal housing but would buy one instantly. The spin on filter conversion looks awesome but too much work and money for too little gain in my opinion. Especially considering I tend to do my own oil changes so they shouldn't get over torqued.

Toyota should get over these plastic housings. Spin on filters are also so much easier than these cartridge styles but I'd be happy enough with a metal oil filter housing.

My Amayama purchase came in around $65 CDN (plus $35 CDN shipping), so $100 all-in. No extras, duty, sales tax, whatever. When placing order through these guys try to ship from just one country, avoid two shipping charges.

More waste with a spin-on filter.

I actually accidentally damaged the threads on the plastic one last time I tried to install it. Ended up going to the AutoZone that opened at 6 am to get a replacement. Over-torqing isn't the only thing that can go wrong.

Just to clarify I never tried fitting it on the Prius v so I don't know if the threads are the same. The filter dimensions are the same and I actually use the Prius v filter on the iQ, without opening the filter drain, (somewhat messy but manageable).

As I recall, Dorman makes an aluminum replacement for the Gen3 Ptius.. I have two of the Toyota ones for the Rav4, Tundra and Camry, They don;t fit, The center tube, when replaced with the longer one from the 4Runner, can be made to fit the 4Runner.

Ironically when I search the part number I found for the iQ's metal one it's $15.54 list and $11.30 sale price at oempartstoyou.com . Reasonably cheap compared to the plactic one.

15620-40030 is the Toyota part number for the IQ housing. It’s 17.50 from my local dealer, overnight availability. I found it the day after my oil change. I’ll procure it at the next change.

While the filter is the exact same dimensions I can not promise you it will fit. ****Please buy at your own risk!****

I have an extra filter adapter that is left over from my motor swap that I can test for proper fitment, with the only risk being a slightly lighter wallet if it doesn’t.
