There are many controls on the steering wheel and the dashboard not counting the touch screen. The manuals are hopeless about finding out what all of them do. Is there a complete diagram showing the location of all controls with a short one line explanation not just acronyms. The ones down low on the L of the steering wheel are hopeless because it is so dark I cannot see the small icons. One needs a flashlight to see them. Is there a light that shines on them???? One would think that the Quick Guide would have a basic layout of all these things. I am a computer expert, has written programs, done nuclear experiments, taught computer science... but they went out of their way to make things difficult to figure out. Why have a coffee cup for some of the LDS (Lane departure warning) controls? There is an icon my wife thought was the horn, but I can't find it anywhere in the manuals. It shows the rear or the front with some sort of radiation (sound or radar?) coming out or is it in? I want a single diagram on a sheet of paper so the co-pilot can tell me where the controls are located.

It’s the distance adjustment for DRCC so you got the radar part right.

If you can't see the row of buttons (number 4, 5, 8, 9 in the diagram below), that means you were driving at night with the headlights off (even though it looks like they're on but those are DRLs). All the buttons on the steering wheel are backlit. The pictogram below is in the owner's manual.

The coffee cup message is also in the manual.

I'll try an "one-liner explain" the buttons for you below.

    1. Cycles between odometer, trip odometers (2), distance travelled since start, distance to empty and a blank screen (OFF)
    2. Controls to adjust volume, change track/change station, fast forward/back, cycle through different audio modes, pause audio (there's cached radio so you can pause terrestrial radio too)
    3. Used to scroll left/right or up/down through the right side 4.2" MID menus. The centre button is "Enter". The back button is... the back button (or previous menu level)
    4. Switch to control the radar cruise control distance setting
    5. Switch to toggle the Lane Departure Alert w/ Steering Control on or off
    6. Cruise control stalk. Press once on the end to turn on/off radar cruise control. Press and hold the end to go into "constant speed" cruise control (or standard cruise control). Please read the manual on how to adjust the set radar speed as it's different from standard cruise control
    7. Heated steering wheel switch (on/off)
    8. VOICE button to activate the voice recognition control (wait for the beep before speaking0
    9. The left button is the "pick up" or "off hook" button. The right one is the "hang up" or "on hook" button. This is to answer bluetooth handsfree calls. The left button also doubles as SIRI Eyes Free voice recognition if you have an iPhone hooked up. Press and hold to activate Siri via your phone.

We own two different Prii, sometimes [like today] I hop from one to the other prius.

The steering wheel soft-buttons are mapped out completely different between these two models.

Thank you so much for your post!! I'm glad that I'm not the only one with the same concerns and questions, even with the manual next me going over the dash. You are absolutely correct - those controls on the lower left of the steering wheel are next to impossible to see, let alone figure out which is which in the manual.

Thank you. Printing this out to cross reference with the manual.

I've added a few more things so hopefully you haven't printed it out yet.

For the dashboard icons in the MID, the Toyota owner site is very helpful. Register at Toyota.com with your VIN, it will have icons and explanation as well as links to online pdf versions of manuals and documents.
