    When the IPM fails, the code is going to re-occure as soon as the vehicle is put into Ready. In my case, when it failed I had it towed home where I have Techstream. I read the codes and cleared them. As soon as I turned the car back on, the codes returned.

    What if the problem is intermittent?
    I would drive up to the dealer and say I just cleared the codes to get here.
    Considering I have had both software updates and the issues are still present.

    Interesting. I've only heard of them failing catastrophically.

    Are you saying your car quits, throws a code for a failed inverter, then operates normally once you reset the codes?

    I have had the system fail and go into limp mode and a bunch of times also completely shut down with loss of power and yes I reset the ecu and it started up and did the same shut down a bunch of times until I got home, luckily I was not far from home.

    Im just gonna go to the dealer hard and boldly tell them I am not taking the car back until the recall is done and they swap the IPM.

    I never screen shot the codes though.
    Does anyone have a screen shot from their scanner with the needed codes?

    @Grit I feel since I have already contacted Corp and it is a case that when they tell me to go to the dealer near me, that those people will see my sales pitch and then read the notes.

    Then they will keep my car and see previous recalls to the system and rather than possibly getting sued, they will fix the issue.

    I wouldn't expect the dealership to respond favorably to that strategy. But it's your nickle, your choice.

    They responded with software updates right? They know about the legal cases correct? You just have to remind them and on the chance that it actually fails and if you live, you can sue them.

    That's what we all think here. What we can do is all come together in big numbers legally to press the issue, or a sudden mass of inverter related death happens within a year span. People come here all the time and threaten to lawyer up but we never hear back from them ever again whether or not if they took Toyota's carcass to court.

    yes.. I guess I may have indeed cleared any codes, tho I assume they would show right back up again as soon as I turned the car back on again. Since all the same warning lights were still back on, and the car performed in limp mode still.

    & yes, we did have both recalls done previously.. but yes, our dealership did determine that it was the IPM that failed.. and they are going to replace/repair it under the warranty enhancement. They still have the car in the shop, I don't know how much longer.. they've had it a week already.. but said that it would take 3-5 days to get the parts.. we opted to take them up on the loaner car which was nice.. tho, we're anxious to get the car back.

    Yes, ours failed catastrophically.. and attempting the reset (battery disconnect) changed nothing..
    I envision that the codes came back right away. I opted not to touch it beyond the initial reset attempt. Likewise, I have not heard of them clearing the codes to drive it again until the next failure. In our case, I believe the transistors on the IPM were just fried or shorted.. (failed)

    Is this because of the lithium battery pack you're testing or are you deliberately testing with a marginal IPM to see what happens, or...?

    This is because I want it done before somone gets hurt not because of the lithium battery, all is good with that.

    we have the car back, ZERO cost.. and seems to be AOK so far..
    they gave me an interesting sheet with all the codes..
    It looks like a highly detailed process to get the right part numbers for all the variations out there..

    @DogDaze

    Awesome can you upload pictures?
    Did they replace the whole thing or just opened it up and swapped the IPM?

    They emailed me this morning and said they will be contacting me soon.

    If I get a chance, the paperwork is all at home.
    As for the inverter, they had to R&R to make the repair.. they had inverter coolant on the tab, so it was a R&R to get to the IPM.

    I didn't. I can't imagine any dealer charging a diagnostic fee for recall/TSB work.

    On the other hand, if I took my car in thinking it was something covered by a recall/TSB and it turned out to be something else, I would expect to pay a diagnostic fee.

    @tvpierce

    I am trying to get the IPM replaced without having the codes.

    Do you think they would cover it under ZE3 extended warranty if there is no codes to show, or would they just do it since it already had the E0E and J0V recalls?
