2015 Toyota Prius 4 with JBL. I just bought this car today from SHIFT, an online car dealership. Audio is not working whatsoever. When I first started it up, radio sound would work, but not Bluetooth sound although it was connected. Tried later, everything worked. Driving home, no audio worked. I can’t even turn on the beep sound for my touch screen. Bluetooth shows what’s playing but no sound. No CD sound etc. Just nothing.

When I checked the backscreen it shows:
DSP-AMP in red with NCON. The Volume knob doesn’t even show a display of the volume level anymore. I’m hoping this is something as simple as a loose connection or a wire being unconnected from the JBL system. I saw the black box under the front passenger seat, but no idea how to remove it so I can check. I’ve had this car for less than 24 hours, and I’m going a little crazy If anyone can tell me where to check, or even send me a link to a video for troubleshooting this, I’d appreciate it. I’m not car or tech savvy.

I’d urge you to consider taking advantage of Shift’s 7-day/200-mile return guarantee. If the car has one electrical problem, there may be others—for example, if the wiring has been damaged by rodents or was modified unskillfully by a previous owner—and if you’d have to rely on a dealer or independent repair shop to find and fix problems, the costs could add up quickly.
The Repair Manual (more info) explains—under Audio/Visual/Telematics: Navigation/Multi Info Display: Navigation System (For Navigation Receiver Type): DTC Check/Clear—that “DSP-AMP” is indeed the stereo component amplifier assembly, under the right front seat, and “NCON” means “The device was previously present, but does not respond in diagnostic mode.”

Other topics in the same section of the manual (“AVC-LAN Circuit,” “DTC B15D3 Stereo Component Amplifier Disconnected,” and “Sound Signal Circuit between Navigation Receiver Assembly and Stereo Component Amplifier”) give step-by-step troubleshooting procedures; I don’t know of a video. PriusChat user @Serenity has kindly posted some relevant pages from the Electrical Wiring Diagram.

When removing and installing the amplifier assembly, the Repair Manual says to remove the front seat assembly first, but I don’t know if you’d have to do this just to check the connectors. If you do remove the seat, since it has an airbag inside, be sure to read and follow the precautions against serious personal injury when working on the supplemental restraint system.

It’s more likely that the problem is with the wiring or power supply, but if the amplifier assembly itself is faulty, the list price for a replacement (part number 86280-47081, shown in catalog Figure 86-01, Radio Receiver & Amplifier & Condenser) is $2,947.88, but you might be able to find a used one for less.

Thank you so much for your thorough response. Today, now the multimedia screen doesn't even turn on or load up, just a black screen. Also, my side mirror adjusting stopped working, no power there anymore either. I spoke with SHIFT today very upset. At first they wanted me to go a mechanic or Toyota to get it checked out and offered 200 dollars toward a diagnostic report and 250 toward any repairs. But seeing as this happened the very first time i drove the vehicle after delivery and It has caused me much stress, they are going to pick it up tomorrow to get it checked out and hopefully repaired. Once they return it to me, i will then have 7 days to decide whether I'd like to keep it or return it.

You're right. It makes me anxious knowing there are some electrical issues clearly present. This vehicle had 2 accidents in its CarFax history "hitting a deer." (two separate occasions) But not salvaged title. It only has 88,000 miles on it, and looks brand new. If they potentially fix the problem, do you still think it may be more prone to similar electrical issues in the future? I will have 7 days once they fix and deliver it back to me, but it makes me nervous. I still plan on taking it to Toyota for a "buyers inspection" whenever I get it back. I will update here what the issue is whenever they let me know. Wish me luck!

Also, for reference, I did disconnect & reconnect the 12V battery. NO change
I also checked a few fuses I thought could be connected to the issue, they all looked good, and I also tested them.

It’s very difficult to say. The collision history is concerning: neither of us knows how (or how severely) the car was damaged, nor how well the repairs were done, assuming the latest problems are even related.

Shift got it repaired and is delivering the car to me today. It was all the JBL amp I suppose.

The report states, "Found Toyota JBL Amp to have internal damage. Removed and Replaced to correct issue."

It seems odd to me that the JBL amp caused the screen to go blank, and my power mirrors to stop working. I just hope that is the only issue. I still have 7 days from after it's delivered today to decided whether I'm keeping it or not. I'd really like to keep it as it drives beautifully. Fingers crossed.
